Apple is offering its smartwatch users the chance to earn a new special badge, as long as they log 30 or more minutes of exercise on Earth Day.
If you complete the workout on Saturday April 22nd, the Cupertino company will reward you with a shiny new icon in the Activity app and a custom iMessage sticker. The new challenge has already started arriving in some countries and is expected to make its rounds overnight for users in the United States.
“Get outside and celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and earn this award. Go for a walk, run, cycle, wheelchair or swim workout of 30 minutes or more in the Workout app or any third-party app that writes these workouts to Health. You will also earn special stickers for Messages.” Apple explains on its website.
The company is known for introducing special challenges from time to time. The Earth Challenge follows the success of its recent Thanksgiving and New Year challenges. The Thanksgiving challenge was awarded to users who walked or ran 5 kilometres during the holiday. At the start of this year, users could earn the New Year’s challenge by completing the three Activity rings every day for a week in January.
First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event that is honoured in nearly 200 countries. Various events are held around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection. On Earth Day last year, the landmark Paris Agreement was signed by the United States, China, and some 120 other countries. This signing satisfied a key requirement for the entry into force of the historic draft climate protection treaty.
To further raise awareness of the battle to fight climate change, Apple’s retail employees will be given green shirts to wear this weekend.
