The newly launched New York Standard Watch (NYSW) range brings the smarts with its new hybrid collection. This is for those after something that looks like a regular watch, but functions like a smartwatch.
Named after iconic locations throughout the Big Apple, the hybrid collection comes from this traditional watchmaker founded back in 1885. The NYSW timepiece is meant to truly look like an everyday watch. It is made with an analogue dial and high-end materials including a 42mm stainless steel case, Italian leather strap and Swarovski crystal. Just as important, the analog watch comes with digital functionality which means no more touch screens, plastic bands or limited functionality.

Features on the dial include a calendar, second hand and three sub-dials. The watch will keep tabs on your activity, it offers smartphone notifications via haptic vibration, reminders, timer/chronograph and more. There is also an accompanying smartphone app with a comprehensive fitness dashboard.
This is not something you will be charging every night. The timepiece operates via a rechargeable battery that is good for two weeks on one charge. It is also water resistant down to a depth of 50 meters (5 ATM).
“Let’s face it, the majority of fitness wearables aren’t very attractive, and still look like smartwatches – not actual watches” said David Luk, the creator of the collections.
“Furthermore, wearing a fine timepiece and a wearable simultaneously can be burdensome. We set out to design and build a timepiece with all the functionality of a well-designed fitness wearable and the beauty of a classic wrist watch. After more than a year of development, we have attained success.”
Watches in the Manhattan, SoHo and Times Square collection are available at a reduced price of $189 until mid-December. Thereafter, they will set you back $380.
