Proud owners of the Suunto Spartan sports-watch will be happy to know their trusty device is about to get a little bit smarter.
The company has started rolling out a firmware update that brings heart rate zone training to the device. This means you’ll be able to tell at a glance your current workout intensity level, and when you’re done how much time you’ve spent in each zone.

A bit late to the party, many sports-watches and some fitness trackers already display this type of information. Knowing your heart rate zone in real time is one of the most important factors for improving performance. All top athlete’s heart rate train, as they know that each intensity zone stresses their body in different ways.
This software update is compatible with all Suunto Spartan watches. In addition to viewing information on five heart rate zones (easy, moderate, hard, very hard, maximal), you’ll be able to define special zones for running and cycling activities. The rollout is set to finish by January 22nd.
If you are thinking about purchasing a Suunto Spartan watch, soon there will be a couple of more options to choose from. The company is launching two outdoor inspired designs of their Spartan Trainer Wrist HR sports watch. The new Amber and Sandstone models will both be available from February 1st.
