What if the Apple Watch was round? If a new patent is anything to go buy, such a wearable may be in the works.

The design of the Apple Watch has remained constant since the very beginning. In fact, apart from the red dot on the crown, the third generation looks exactly like the previous one. Its still square, the case is pretty much still the same size. Sure its slightly thinner, but if Apple hadn’t mentioned it, we probably wouldn’t have noticed.
This could all change, though.
A new patent titled “Electronic Device Having Display With Curved Edges” has been granted to Apple yesterday. Considering the document mentions a watch, its not too much of a stretch to speculate the technology could make its way into the company’s wrist wearable. Some of the illustrations in the patent even look like a smartwatch.
Its worth mentioning, this is not the first patent of its kind filed by Apple. In fact, this particular one was originally filed more than two years ago. And there were two others, one of which specifies a single, continuous, round flexible display covering both the face and the band.
But what would such a device look like? If these concept images rendered by Alcion are anything to go by, it would be absolutely gorgeous.
Of course, just because the Cupertino outfit has been granted these patents, it doesn’t mean that Apple will actually use the design. The company files numerous patents, many of which don’t see the light of day. But if we do see a round Apple Watch, we sincerely doubt the technology will be ready in time for Series 4.
