August 8th is the date marking the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It has also been China’s National Fitness Day since 2009. On that date, all public sports facilities can be used by the public for free.
A wide range of campaigns will be held around the country to encourage people to take up more physical exercise. Activities will include fitness seminars, fitness check-ups, and popular sports in the region such as table tennis, five-a-side football, swimming, tennis and more.
As first reported by 9to5Mac, the Cupertino outfit is marking the occasion with exclusive reward badges in the Activity app. Apple Watch owners in China can earn this by completing a workout lasting 30 minutes or longer on the big day.
As Apple explains, this can be any type of workout.
August 8 is the perfect day to be active. Earn this award by recording a workout of 30 minutes or more with your Apple Watch on National Fitness Day.
While not the first region-specific challenge, this is the first time Apple has issued one exclusively for China. It follows a slew of other challenges including the Earth Day Challenge, International Women’s Day Challenge, Apple Heart Month Challenge and the New Year Challenge.
