Having passed through the FCC two weeks ago, Amazfit Band 6 has now leaked on a retailers website. The activity tracker comes with Amazon Alexa, blood oxygen monitoring, heart-rate tracker, menstrual cycle tracker and stress detection.
Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets
We broke the news in early July on a new Huami fitness band in the works. It was revealed on the FCC’s website along with pictures of the packaging. This told us quite a bit about the new activity tracker dubbed Amazfit Band 5.
The packaging revealed features such as 5 ATM water-resistance, continuous heart rate, multi-sport modes, AMOLED display, Connected GPS, battery capacity 125 mAh and compatibility with Android 5.0, iOS 10.0 or above. Quite decent specs for an activity tracker.
Coincidently, all of these features can be found on Xiaomi Mi Band 5 as well. We mention this because Huami is the manufacturer of the Xiaomi fitness device. The fifth generation of Mi Band was introduced in Asia in June and Europe in July.
More competition in the budget fitness tracker space
It seems like Xiaomi’s fitness device is about to be hit with some more competition. Amazfit is obviously preparing a few activity bands of its own that will compete in the budget fitness tracker space.
There was talk Xiaomi Mi Band 5 might come in a pro variant that will feature Amazon Alexa and blood oxygen monitoring. However that iteration never surfaced. It seems the “York” codename of the firmware which was believed to be for Mi Band is actually for Amazfit Band 6.
Which means we will probably not be getting the rumored Pro version of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 but will instead get Amazfit Band 6. Its features along with pics were revealed on a Russian retailers website. The Amazfit brand already has a significant presence in the US so the business decision might have been to launch the higher-spec version under its name.
The fitness band comes with the same features as Mi Band 5 plus a few more. These include the ability to read blood oxygen levels and Alexa compatibility.
Here are the specifications in full.
No price is listed for the Amazfit Band 6 but the FCC filing coupled with a leak on the retailers website implies a launch date is not too far off. We are therefore expecting at least one Amazfit band and possibly both to launch later this month or in the near future.
