Typically, the retail tech giant holds the two day shopping event in early or mid July. However the coronavirus situation this year has turned everything upside down. Nevertheless, Amazon has decided to squeeze in Prime Day just ahead of the all-important holiday shopping period and Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November.
The good news is that you don’t need to live in the US to take advantage of the deals. Amazon stores around the world will be offering discounts.
You will need an Amazon Prime Membership
The clue is in the name. Yes, you will need an Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the deals.
This is a paid subscription program that gives users access to additional services otherwise unavailable or available at a premium to regular Amazon customers. This includes speedy, one or two-day delivery which is perhaps the most attractive part of the package. Plus there’s streaming music and video.
That’s great if you have Amazon Prime already but if you don’t, membership will set you back $12.99 per month or $119 per year. However, you could qualify for 50% off if you are a student, have a valid EBT/Medicaid card and more. Info on all of this can be found here.
If you don’t want to become a member, there’s still a way to take advantage of the deals. Amazon offers a 30 day free Prime Day trial for those unsure if they want to subscribe to the service. So if you join now and cancel before the 30 days are up, you won’t be charged anything. But all the cost savings on October 13th and 14th will be available to you.
Fitness tracker and smartwatch deals to look forward to
If you’ve been holding out for a fitness tracker or smartwatch, now might be the time to start putting your wishlist together. Make sure you’re ready with this when prices finally drop.
Fitbit, Garmin, Apple, Withings, Polar, Huawei Fossil and more – you can bet they will all offer some great deals on the latest tech. They have done so in previous years. You might even find discounts on just launched smartwatches. This includes Fitbit Sense and Versa 3, Garmin Forerunner 745 and Venu SQ and Apple Watch Series 6.
Some deals might drop before the official start, but the bulk of savings will be had on Prime Day itself. We will, of course, cover all the deals in the run-up and during the event.
This year Amazon has announced something called “Watch this deal”. This works through the company’s mobile app and allows users to set up alerts to be notified when specific products go on sale. You might want to set this up now. As in the previous years, the Lightning deals will also be there.
Finally, you’ll also want to bookmark Amazon’s deal page. This is where the items included in the sale will drop.
