Users have received a notification informing them what they need to do to win medals in the Activity app. Additional prizes come in the form of stickers for use in Messages and FaceTime.

A before, it boils down to closing the activity rings for seven consecutive days between January 7th (when the challenge starts) and January 31st. This can be done one of three ways:

  1. Stand for at least one minute across 12 different hours,
  2. Do a 30 minute workout or
  3. Burn your personal active calorie goal.

But remember, you need to achieve this seven days in a row. Otherwise it doesn’t count!

The challenge was mysteriously missing in 2019. But it was back on the following year.

The design of the award has remained the same in 2021, it’s only the year that has changed. This follows the November challenge that required users to walk or run 5 kilometers on Thanksgiving Day. But unlike the Thanksgiving badge, the New Year challenge is available both to those in the US and other countries.

This is all timed nicely to help with those New Year resolutions. The challenge will also come in handy when it comes to shedding those extra holiday pounds.
