After delays, Xiaomi Mi Band 7 reportedly enters production

The much anticipated update to Xiaomi’s flagship activity tracker should launch soon. The word is that Mi Band 7 has now entered production. Some are even mentioning May 10th as a possible launch date. Mi Watch from 2020 will also reportedly get a successor in the near future.

Like clockwork, each year we get a new Xiaomi activity band. Sometimes it lands in June or May, last year it dropped a bit earlier – in March. The device has been a huge success. It is of the best selling budget fitness bands in the world, typically selling in the millions just a few days following a launch.

A clue that the Mi Band 7 is in the works came from Belgian and Indonesian certification agencies in March. This revealed a device with model number “M2129B1”. While this didn’t really say anything about possible features, it did confirm the existence of the device.

It has been more than 12 months now since the last iteration was launched. Apparently, the resurgence of coronavirus and quarantine restrictions in China has pushed back the release date of the device.

Now Mukul Sharma from StuffListings has revealed that the launch of Mi Band 7 is imminent. His sources tell him that the device has entered serial production in Europe and Asia. Furthermore, Xiaomi apparently has a smartwatch in the works. This one will be an upgrade to Mi Watch which saw the light of day at the end of 2020.

We are expecting Mi Band 7 to come with a larger display with an always-on option, built-in GPS (maybe), features such as smart wake, passcode, Power Saving Battery Mode and more. At least that is what the leaks point to. A recent patent has uncovered that the display might be a whopping 1.64 inches. It is also expected that Band 7 will work with applications from the Zepp operating system.

Still there’s no specific launch date for the device. Although some are mentioning May 10th as a strong candidate. The assumption is that the wearable will be unveiled alongside the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra. If we don’t see the fitness band then, look for it to land in the weeks that follow.
