Get ready for Apple’s Earth Day activity challenge

Apple will soon be offering its smartwatch users the chance to earn a new special badge, as long as they log 30 or more minutes of exercise on Earth Day. After that you’ll need to get your dancing shoes out for another challenge!

If you complete the workout on Saturday April 22nd, the tech giant will reward you. You’ll get a shiny new icon in the Activity app and a custom iMessage stickers. As usual, the exercise will need to be recorded in the Fitness app or in any app that can send data to the Health app.

“Let’s get out there and show some love for the planet. On April 22, work out for 30 minutes or more to earn this award. Record it with the Workout app or any app that adds to Health.”

The challenge should become visible to Apple Watch owners in the week ahead. It will read “Let’s get moving and celebrate the planet” when it becomes available.

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day was founded to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Events in nearly 200 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network. This year, the focus will be on providing information and inspiration needed to change human attitude and behavior about plastics.

Apple does not hold a challenge every year for Earth Day. But it has done this several times in the past. For added motivation, this year users will also get a few shiny animated stickers.

Dance activity challenge comes a week later

The other challenge you can look forward to comes a week later. To earn the dance challenge award, you’ll need to do a Dance workout lasting at least 20 minutes or more on the 29th. It is your choice – you can do a standalone dance routine or use a dance routine in Apple Fitness+. Some of you may not know that the launch of Apple Fitness+ a while back brought with it dancing workouts as a separate category.

Those who are successful in completing the task will get a badge in the Fitness app as well as some nifty animated stickers.

Some of Apple’s challenges are limited to certain countries. But these two should be available globally.

  • Has anyone else complained of not receiving the badge even though completing a workout that day? I worked out for over an hour & I don’t have it. My husband though completed his & shows on his badges. Help!
