Zepp Health’s upcoming T-Rex Dual Solar has left another big clue inside the Zepp app, and this time we are learning something about how the watch may actually work. The latest version introduces a substantial solar software package, including a previously unseen Solar Boost Mode that strips the watch back to basic functions to improve charging efficiency.

We compared Zepp version 10.7.3 against the previous release, looking specifically for new device names and hardware-related code. There is plenty of routine stuff in the update, but the solar additions stand out.

T-Rex Dual Solar now appears by name

The first change is fairly straightforward. Zepp 10.7.3 now contains the full product name
Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar
in its device resources. This is a first.

At this point the name itself is not a huge surprise. Regulatory filings have already connected model A2570 with the T-Rex Dual Solar, following appearances in several certification databases. But it is useful confirmation that Zepp Health is now adding the watch to the software it will use when the device reaches customers.

This also builds on something we spotted in the Zepp app last month. Back then the code contained references to solar intensity,
watch_face_input_power
and
case_back_input_power
, but there was no device name connecting those features to an actual Amazfit watch.

Solar Boost Mode is the interesting bit

The bigger discovery, this time around, is an entirely new solar software package in Zepp 10.7.3. It includes code for solar statistics, intensity readings, charging records and notifications, along with a dedicated solar education graphic.

Among the new components are
SolarStatsActivity
,
SolarIntensityServiceImpl
,
SolarIntensityDataHandler
and
SolarBatteryChargeRemotePlugin
. There are also references to solar intensity measured in kLux and the same separate watch-face and case-back input measurements we saw previously.

But one feature stands out above the rest. Zepp 10.7.3 introduces something called
Solar Boost Mode
.

The app explains that when the watch enters this mode, it will only display the time, battery level and solar intensity information. Most other functionality becomes unavailable, including data synchronisation, route transfer, workouts started through the app and some Zepp Coach features.

There are also warning messages for situations where charging efficiency is low and prompts telling the user that data cannot be synchronised while Solar Boost Mode is active.

That gives us a much better idea of what Zepp Health is trying to achieve.

Rather than simply placing a solar panel on the watch and allowing it to trickle-charge during normal use, Solar Boost Mode appears to slash power consumption so the energy coming in from the solar system has a better chance of increasing the battery level. In other words, you may be able to put the watch into a deliberately restricted state when extending battery life is more important than using its smart features.

For a T-Rex device aimed at hiking, expeditions and long periods away from a charger, that makes quite a lot of sense.

It could also make Amazfit’s implementation rather different from the typical solar-assisted smartwatch. Garmin solar watches, for example, generally use sunlight to extend battery life while the watch continues operating normally. A dedicated low-power solar charging mode could give Zepp Health another way of squeezing useful energy from a relatively small solar surface.

There is still plenty we do not know. The code does not tell us how quickly the T-Rex Dual Solar charges or how much extra battery life it can generate.

The earlier
watch_face_input_power
and
case_back_input_power
fields remain particularly intriguing. They could point to two separate energy inputs, but at this stage we can’t draw a firm conclusion from those names alone.

The hardware has still not been announced, but the software side is starting to look very close to finished. Zepp Health now has the T-Rex Dual Solar name in the app, a solar statistics interface, charging records, intensity measurements and an entire Solar Boost Mode ready to manage the watch when solar charging becomes the priority.

This article is based on an APK teardown. Code found inside an app can reveal features or devices that are under development, but there is no guarantee they will appear in a future public release.

Zepp Health has renamed its Helio Strap companion mini app to “Amazfit Screenless Devices,” a small change that says quite a lot about where the company is taking its wearable ecosystem. Version 2.0.1 adds Helio Strap Pro support and arrives just as Amazfit watches are gaining direct controls for screenless hardware.

What the mini app actually does

Let’s clarify a bit.

A Helio Strap can already connect directly to a compatible Amazfit watch and provide heart-rate data during workouts. So the mini app is not required simply to make that basic connection work.

Instead, the mini app acts as the management interface for the screenless device on the watch. Version 2.0.1 says users can view information such as battery level and software version, and manage functions including Heart Rate Broadcast and Activity Recognition.

That is also why recent Amazfit firmware updates can sound confusing at first. Zepp OS is starting to expose some of these screenless-device controls through places such as Control Center and shortcut cards, rather than forcing users to open the mini app every time.

The latest Cheetah 2 Ultra firmware is a good example. Its release notes say that once a screenless device is connected, users can manage it through Control Center, shortcut cards or the device app.

That “device app” appears to be the newly renamed Amazfit Screenless Devices mini app. So these are not competing ways of connecting to the Helio Strap, they are simply different ways of reaching the same device controls from the watch.

You could think of the mini app as the main device page. Control Center and shortcut cards then provide quicker access to selected functions without having to dig into the app itself.

That setup should become more useful as Zepp Health adds more controls. Checking the Strap battery, toggling heart-rate broadcasting or finding the device from your wrist is much more convenient during training than pulling out a phone.

Why the new name is interesting

Support for the Amazfit Helio Strap Pro is part of version 2.0.1, but that alone does not really explain the rename. Zepp Health could easily have kept the Helio branding if the app was only intended to support a couple of Helio products.

Instead, it chose Amazfit Screenless Devices. That is a much more generic name, and it leaves room for straps, sensors or other screen-free hardware that may arrive later – future straps, sensors or other display-free wearables.

The broader direction fits with what we have already seen from Zepp OS 6. Amazfit watches are gradually becoming hubs for external sensors and accessories, rather than devices that operate largely on their own.

For Helio Strap owners, the immediate benefit is fairly simple. More of the Strap can now be managed from the wrist, and common functions can surface directly in places such as Control Center instead of remaining buried inside a dedicated app.

Several Amazfit watches have now received Zepp OS 6 without the new Launcher 2.0, creating some confusion over whether Zepp Health was deliberately holding back part of the update. The company has now explained what is going on, and it turns out the decision is mostly to do with user feedback.

The company makes that distinction clear in its official Zepp OS 6 compatibility chart. You can see the recap below.

User feedback put the launcher rollout on hold

An Amazfit spokesperson has now explained the thinking behind the decision. Zepp Health received plenty of feedback after Launcher 2.0 appeared on the first Zepp OS 6 watches, and one complaint kept coming up in particular.

Users missed the horizontal widgets.

Launcher 2.0 changes what happens when you swipe around the main watch face. It gives workouts and apps more clearly defined places in the interface, while health and activity information moves into the vertical Shortcut Cards.

That sounds fairly minor on paper, but the horizontal widgets were a big part of how many people used their Amazfit watches. Removing them changes the basic navigation quite a bit.

Zepp Health says its product team is now evaluating that feedback. Until it decides on the best approach, the company has chosen to continue rolling out Zepp OS 6 to existing watches without necessarily including Launcher 2.0.

I can see why Launcher 2.0 divided opinion

I tested the new Zepp OS 6 Motion UI and Launcher 2.0 on the Balance 3 earlier this summer. It did not take long to get used to, but I came away thinking it was more of a rearrangement than a major improvement.

The new layout is certainly tidy. Workouts and apps have obvious places, while health information is grouped into Shortcut Cards. Once you have used it for a few days, the logic makes sense.

But the old horizontal widgets were useful. You could swipe through full-screen panels showing things such as heart rate, BioCharge and activity without first going into a vertical list and opening individual cards.

That extra step is small, but it changes the feel of the watch. When I tested the Balance 3, I thought the new setup worked perfectly well, but I was not convinced it was clearly better than what came before.

The full watch itself remains one of the better examples of Zepp OS 6 in use, as I also found during my Amazfit Balance 3 review. But Launcher 2.0 was never the part of the update that impressed me most.

Judging by Zepp Health’s explanation, enough users felt similarly for the company to reconsider how aggressively it pushes the new interface.

Missing now does not mean missing forever

There is one important detail in the clarification. Zepp Health says that not receiving Launcher 2.0 with the initial Zepp OS 6 upgrade does not mean a watch will never support it.

The company also pushed back against the idea that it is deliberately keeping newer software features away from older watches to separate product generations. Its stated approach is to provide the same software capabilities across different models where the hardware can support them.

It will be interesting to see what Launcher 2.0 looks like by the time Zepp Health makes a decision on the way forward. The company could simply resume the rollout, but it could also tweak the navigation or find a way to bring horizontal widgets back in some form.

Amazfit is rolling out firmware version 6.3.13.5 for the T-Rex 3, adding tighter Helio Strap integration, better navigation and a number of map improvements. The 22.92MB update also tweaks VO2 Max estimates, Track Run and freediving alerts. The same update seems to be rolling out for T-Rex 3 Pro and Ultra 2.

Better Helio Strap integration

For starters, the company has improved the way the T-Rex 3 works with the Helio Strap and Helio Strap Pro. Once connected, several functions can now be controlled directly from the watch rather than through the Zepp app.

Users can access these controls through Control Center, shortcut cards or the device app on the watch. Options include low-battery alerts, Find Device and the ability to switch heart rate broadcasting on or off.

The Helio device needs to be running the latest firmware before the new controls will appear. This builds on the existing option to use the Amazfit Helio Strap as an external heart rate monitor.

There is also a new Accessory Reminder setting for workouts. When enabled, the T-Rex 3 searches for compatible accessories when you reach the workout GO screen, giving you the option to connect them or continue without pairing anything.

Navigation and maps get an upgrade

Route navigation gets two changes. The watch can now detect when you are travelling in the wrong direction and display an alert with a one-tap option to reverse the navigation direction. The T-Rex 3 will also notify you when it has successfully recalculated a route after you go off course.

Maps have received a larger batch of changes. Zepp Health says contour lines are now easier to see, while trails use a different colour so they stand out more clearly from urban roads.

Sidewalk information has also been added alongside some major roads. This appears at map scales between 200 metres and 8 metres, so it should become most useful as you zoom further into an area.

The way points of interest appear has been adjusted as well. Road names and place names should also display more clearly at different zoom levels, while users can now download maps covering a larger geographic area.

VO2 Max and workout tweaks

Zepp Health has also updated the VO2 Max algorithm. The company says the change improves accuracy and stability, although the changelog does not explain what has actually changed in the calculation.

Track Run gets a small adjustment for people using imperial units. The second workout page can now display both imperial and metric distance information, rather than sticking entirely to one measurement system.

Freediving also gets a minor change. Users can now select different buzzer types for depth and time alerts, making it easier to distinguish between the two underwater.

Amazfit Balance 2 is finally receiving Zepp OS 6 through firmware version 6.2.208.7. It is a packed upgrade with new training, mapping and health tools, although one very visible part of the new interface is missing.

The update has started appearing on watches in Germany and should expand to other regions gradually. It weighs 23.33MB, so this is not an especially large download despite the lengthy changelog.

Zepp OS 6 arrives with plenty of extras

Zepp Health describes the update as an upgrade to Zepp OS 6 with a new sport-inspired interface, smoother operation and improved visual feedback. Early recipients say scrolling feels better and screens flow together more naturally, but the underlying layout remains familiar.

That is because the new Zepp OS 6 launcher found on the Balance 3 and Balance Ultra is not included. Several owners who have installed the update have confirmed its absence, so Balance 2 is getting Zepp OS 6 without the full Motion UI treatment.

This is a slightly odd compromise. When I tested Motion UI on the Balance 3, the biggest change was the rearranged launcher, with exercise shortcuts on one side, apps on the other and daily stats moved into a vertical card system. Balance 2 owners appear to keep the older launcher while receiving other Zepp OS 6 components underneath.

Whether that is temporary remains unclear. Zepp Health may add the launcher later, but the current changelog makes no such promise.

Training and maps get most of the attention

There is still quite a lot here to unpack. Pool swimming gains manual pauses, with the watch separating active swimming from rest periods inside the workout summary.

Runners get new Equivalent Pace per-lap data fields for outdoor running and trail running. Zepp Health has also tweaked its running lactate threshold algorithm, which should improve the accuracy of threshold estimates over time.

Rowing machine support takes a useful step forward as well. Balance 2 can now connect to third-party machines that use the FTMS standard, including the Concept2 RowErg, and display data such as power and distance.

The watch also gains a Training Calendar app for viewing plans created in Zepp. A new Training Library provides access to additional guided workouts, while completed activities can now be linked to equipment such as running shoes.

Mapping should feel more organised after the update. The new download manager allows users to pause, resume, update and delete map downloads, while the number of routes stored on the watch increases to 100.

Route previews now show the course shape and name before a workout begins. Zepp Health has also improved turn alerts, destination screens, map controls and the general workout layout.

A few smaller changes

Voice memos can now be recorded during a workout and played back later through the activity details in the Zepp app. That could be handy for noting pain, terrain, equipment changes or anything else that may explain an unusual session.

Morning Updates have also become Daily Updates. The watch can now provide information in both the morning and evening, giving users a quick start-of-day briefing and a look back at how the day went.

Apple users gain HRV syncing with Apple Health, which closes another gap between Zepp and the wider iOS health ecosystem. Some workout modes will also require holding the crown to pause rather than pressing it once, reducing accidental pauses.

Balance 2 was already getting close to the newer Balance 3 through previous firmware releases. This update narrows the software gap further, but the missing launcher leaves Zepp OS 6 feeling slightly incomplete for now.

Zepp OS 6 has started rolling out to the Amazfit Active Max, right on the August schedule Zepp Health outlined earlier this year. The update brings new training features to the watch, although the interface itself appears to remain largely unchanged.

Zepp OS 6 rollout continues

Earlier this month, the Active 3 Premium received its Zepp OS 6 update. That release brought additional workout features including FTMS rowing support, manual rest for swimming, permanent touchscreen locking during workouts and map improvements.

Zepp OS 6 itself introduces a wider collection of changes, including Multi-Device Activity Sync, an expanded Daily Briefing and more tools for structured training. Not every feature necessarily reaches every watch, so the exact Active Max package may differ from newer devices that shipped with Zepp OS 6 from day one.

The upgrade continues a steady stream of additions for the Active Max since its launch. Previous updates have already expanded its training capabilities, including the arrival of lactate threshold tracking.

The Active Max was already a well-equipped watch for its price, with a 1.5-inch AMOLED display, offline maps, onboard storage and more than 170 sports modes. As we found in our review, battery life and the overall fitness package are among its stronger points.

Zepp OS 6 does not completely transform that formula. Instead, it brings the software underneath it up to date and adds some of the training tools Zepp Health has been introducing across its newer lineup.

Training Library arrives on Active Max

Another addition, this time around, is something called Training Library. It appears near the top of the workout section. This gives users easier access to structured training content directly from the watch rather than relying as heavily on the Zepp app.

Training Library is part of Zepp Health’s broader push towards more structured training in Zepp OS 6. The platform also supports Training Calendar and improved handling of planned workouts, bringing Amazfit’s software closer to the approach used on its newer watches.

Don’t expect the Active Max to suddenly look like a completely different device, though. The basic navigation remains familiar, including the existing swipe gestures and functions assigned to its two physical buttons.

As usual, the firmware appears to be rolling out in stages. So if Zepp OS 6 has not appeared on your Active Max yet, that does not necessarily mean anything is wrong. With the rollout now underway, availability should broaden from here.

IFA 2026 gets underway in Berlin on September 4, and once again wearable tech will only make up a small part of a very large show. Quite a few familiar names are missing this year, but Xiaomi, Samsung, Withings, RingConn and Ultrahuman are confirmed, while we expect Zepp Health to hold another separate launch event alongside the big tech gathering.

IFA runs until September 8 at Messe Berlin, with more than 1,900 brands expected across the wider consumer electronics show. For wearable tech, though, the exhibitor list tells a more interesting story than the overall numbers.

Quite a few big names are missing

Garmin will once again skip IFA, despite the company having plenty going on with its wearable range. Apple is absent as usual, Fitbit will not be there and Huawei doesn’t appear on the list. Polar will also not be there. However – Spiros Andreou, the company’s Head of Global Industry & Technology Partnerships, is speaking at IFA on September 4 in a connected-health/wellness session.

Whoop is another notable omission this time around. That is a change from IFA 2025, when Whoop had a proper stand displaying Whoop 5.0, Whoop MG and its newer apparel range.

This continues a trend we have been seeing for several years. Big wearable launches are increasingly happening at standalone events, where manufacturers do not have to fight thousands of televisions, laptops, washing machines and robot vacuums for attention.

That does not make IFA irrelevant for wearables. It just means you need to know where to look. IFA itself says IFA Next this year will put more emphasis on smart glasses, AI wearables and wearable/ring interfaces.

Zepp Health could steal the headlines again

Zepp Health will not have a stand inside Messe Berlin, but we expect the company to follow the same approach as recent years and hold a separate event on the opening day of IFA.

It did exactly that last year. The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro launched in Berlin on the opening day of IFA and ended up being one of the biggest wearable announcements associated with the show.

This year we have a pretty good idea of where at least some of the attention could go. The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar has now appeared in several regulatory databases, including filings in Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, the Eurasian Economic Union and most recently the FCC.

An early September reveal looks very plausible. It is not confirmed for IFA week, but the timing would certainly fit with Zepp Health’s usual Berlin launch schedule.

Zepp Health has previously indicated that next-generation Helio hardware is coming in the second half of 2026. Now we did se the Helio Strap Pro launch a month ago, but this space is still worth watching.

Xiaomi might have the most to show

Xiaomi is one of the more interesting names this year. The company has an official IFA 2026 presence, and unlike several of the traditional wearable brands, it has a fairly broad line-up it can bring to Berlin.

The obvious device to watch is the Xiaomi Smart Band 11. It has already moved through regulatory approval in China, Taiwan and the UAE, with filings pointing to both standard and NFC versions.

Earlier Smart Band 11 leaks point to a 1.78-inch AMOLED display, HRV monitoring and a broader sensor package. None of those leaked specifications should be treated as final yet, but the growing pile of certifications suggests the device is getting close.

The Xiaomi Watch S5 should also be on show. The Watch S5 is already available internationally, so IFA will be more about putting Xiaomi’s latest smartwatch in front of European visitors rather than announcing its arrival.

That leaves Smart Band 11 as the more interesting Xiaomi wildcard. If the timing lines up, Berlin would be a very natural place for Xiaomi to give its next fitness band a major European push.

Samsung will be there, but don’t expect another Unpacked

Samsung is confirmed for IFA again, although most of its 2026 wearable hardware has already been unveiled. The Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 arrived in July, so these should provide most of the wrist-based action in Berlin.

Watch9 brings a new processor and some useful battery improvements, particularly on the smaller model. Ultra2 goes further with an 800mAh battery, thinner body and a brighter display, making it the more substantial hardware update of the two.

The bigger question is the Galaxy Ring. Samsung still has not produced a second generation, and earlier regulatory activity around the 2026 watches arrived without any sign of Galaxy Ring 2.

That does not completely rule out a surprise, but there is very little evidence pointing towards new Samsung ring hardware for Berlin. For now, IFA looks more like a showcase for products Samsung has already launched.

Withings has a couple of things worth watching

Withings will be back at IFA, and there is no convincing evidence yet of a new ScanWatch generation. That makes another flagship smartwatch launch less obvious than it was in some previous years.

The company does have other hardware to show. Withings BodyScan 2 is now available in Europe and the US, giving Withings a substantial new health product to demonstrate on the IFA floor.

RingConn, Ultrahuman and Circular return

Smart rings should once again have a noticeable presence in Berlin. RingConn and Ultrahuman are both confirmed exhibitors, although neither company necessarily needs another new-generation ring right now.

RingConn Gen 3 only arrived this year, bringing vibration alerts, upgraded sensors, Vascular Trend and battery life of up to 14 days. IFA could be more about showing how those vibration features develop through software, particularly with RingConn planning additional alert functionality later this year.

Ultrahuman is in a similar position. Ring PRO launched earlier in 2026 with a larger battery, redesigned internals and a charging case, although shipments have taken longer than originally expected.

Circular is also back at IFA. But we are yet to learn whether they will be presenting a next generation device.

IFA also lists Luna Ring as a 2026 exhibitor. And the company has more than just the Ring Gen 2 now. It unveiled Luna Band at CES 2026, a screenless health tracker very much in the Whoop and Helio Strap category.

And there are other smart ring brands such as MYnextRING, Momax and eIoT. So smart rings should make an interesting showing.

What happened at IFA 2025

Last year’s show gives us a decent idea of what to expect. There were fewer major wearable launches than in IFA’s earlier years, but our IFA 2025 picture gallery still had plenty of hardware to cover.

IFA 2026 looks like it could follow a similar pattern. The traditional smartwatch giants are not exactly queueing up to attend, but Xiaomi, Withings, Samsung and the smart-ring brands give us enough to look at.

  Update August 12, 2026
The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar has now appeared at the FCC under model A2570, confirming Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and likely dual-frequency GNSS. Battery capacity and solar details remain hidden.

Zepp Health appears to be getting ready to launch its first solar-powered watch, and we may finally have a name for it. Multiple regulatory filings identify a new A2570 smartwatch, with the Malaysian registration going one step further and naming it the Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar.

Three registrations point to the same watch

The trail starts in Indonesia (via Wearablefans), where A2570 appears in the country’s official Sertifikasi Indonesia database. The listing identifies the device as an AMAZFIT smartwatch manufactured in China. Its certificate number is 125183/DJID/2026, with PT GLOBALTAMA SUKSES MAKMUR shown as the applicant.

South Korea’s RRA database also contains A2570. The registration lists Anhui Huami Information Technology Co., Ltd. as the applicant and gives it the verification code RC-hM6-A2570. Certification was granted on August 4, 2026, with China and Vietnam listed as countries of manufacture.

Then comes the Malaysian filing, which gives away considerably more.

SIRIM lists model A2570 together with the marketing name T-REX DUAL SOLAR. The type approval code is RDCX/40N/0726/S(26-4227), with an approval date of August 3, 2026. COMSAT MOBILE COMMUNICATION SDN BHD is listed as the certificate holder.

We also spotted Model A2570 in the Eurasian Economic Union registry. Which adds another regulatory appearance for the same device.

This fits what we found in the Zepp app

What makes this particularly interesting – in June, we found solar-related functionality inside the Zepp Health app. The code included
SolarBatteryChargeRecord
, solar intensity data and references to
watch_face_input_power
and
case_back_input_power
.

At the time there was no product name attached to any of it. The code simply suggested Zepp Health was preparing its software for hardware capable of reporting solar or light-based power input.

A few days later, an unidentified rugged watch appeared on Amazfit Spain’s official Instagram account. It had the chunky round shape and red bezel detail associated with the T-Rex family, but it did not resemble any model Zepp Health was selling.

The display also looked noticeably different from the glossy AMOLED screens used on recent T-Rex watches. We suggested at the time that it could be a low-power MIP display and possibly the solar watch hinted at in the Zepp app. The new T-Rex Dual Solar model now looks like it could be a likely candidate.

The “Dual Solar” name does suggest there is something more going on than simply adding a small solar ring around the display. It could refer to two separate solar collection areas, different types of photovoltaic elements, or some other dual-component charging arrangement.

Zepp Health is already starting from a strong position here. The Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 packs an 870 mAh battery and is rated for up to 30 days of typical use. Solar assistance on a watch designed around lower power consumption could push endurance much further.

A launch now looks much more plausible

There was already another clue that the T-Rex family had more to come this year.

During its 2026 earnings commentary, Zepp Health said it had additional T-Rex family products lined up for later in the year. We flagged those comments in June, before the solar app code and these regulatory filings appeared.

Regulatory approval does not tell us exactly when the watch will launch. Still, these multiple certifications suggest the hardware is well beyond the early prototype stage. IFA 2026 is around the corner. Don’t be surprised if the device makes its debut in early September.

Other sources: Sertifikasi Indonesia, South Korea RRA, Malaysia SIRIM, EAEU registry

Amazfit is rolling out a new software update across eight of its current smartwatches, bringing better pool swimming controls, FTMS rowing support and improved workout locking. Some of these features have already appeared on individual watches, but the company is now spreading them across much more of its current range.

The update covers the Balance Ultra, Balance 3, T-Rex Ultra 2, both T-Rex 3 Pro sizes, T-Rex 3, Cheetah 2 Ultra, Cheetah 2 Pro and Active 3 Premium. Feature availability varies between models.

Swimming and workout controls get better

Pool swimmers get Manual Rest, which lets you press a button to mark when swimming stops and recovery begins. The watch then separates swimming and rest periods, while also breaking swimming segments down by stroke.

Automatic rest detection can struggle with structured pool sessions, particularly when recovery periods are short. Manual control removes some of that guesswork.

There is also a new Always Locked option. Once enabled, the touchscreen stays locked for the entire workout, while the physical buttons remain active. The standard T-Rex 3 is the exception and does not get Always Locked mode.

We recently covered several of these additions when they arrived on the Amazfit Active 3 Premium alongside Zepp OS 6. The interesting part now is that Zepp Health is extending the same training tools across Balance, T-Rex and Cheetah models as well.

Better support for connected rowing

Indoor rowing gets another addition. Compatible FTMS rowing machines can send workout data directly to the watch, including power and distance. Zepp Health specifically lists support for equipment such as the Concept2 RowErg. This means the watch can use data reported by the rowing machine rather than relying entirely on estimates from wrist movement.

Balance 3, Balance Ultra, Cheetah 2 Ultra and Cheetah 2 Pro also gain Athlete Defaults. This automatically enables Workout Do Not Disturb, switches off workout alerts and sets GPS to maximum precision. It is essentially a shortcut for people who use the same settings every time they train.

A few smaller improvements round things out. Route Preview now supports panning and zooming before and during workouts, map zooming has been refined, and Amazfit says alarm creation and management should be simpler.

None of these additions is particularly dramatic on its own. Taken together, though, they show where the company has been focusing its recent software work.

The hardware is already competitive. In our Amazfit Balance 3 review, GPS, heart rate tracking and battery life all held up well. The next challenge is making the training software around that hardware deeper and more consistent.

Zepp Health has started rolling out firmware 6.2.204.3 to the Active 3 Premium, and the update moves the watch to Zepp OS 6. It also adds FTMS rowing machine support, manual rest for pool swimming, a permanent touchscreen lock during workouts and some terrain map improvements.

The system information screen now identifies the software as Zepp OS 6. This was expected eventually, as the Active 3 Premium appeared on Zepp Health’s Zepp OS 6 rollout schedule, but the new firmware suggests the rollout has now started.

More than an OS update

Firmware 6.2.204.3 also adds support for compatible rowing machines over Bluetooth FTMS. This allows equipment such as the Concept2 RowErg to send metrics including power and distance directly to the watch during a workout.

Pool swimming gets an improvement as well. Users can now manually mark rest periods during a session, allowing the watch to distinguish between swimming and recovery rather than treating the workout as one uninterrupted activity. Swim and rest segments then appear separately in the workout data.

There is also a new Always Lock option for the touchscreen during workouts. With it enabled, touch controls remain disabled while the watch can still be operated using its physical buttons. That should help with accidental touches during swimming, wet weather and other activities where touchscreen controls are not particularly useful.

Zepp Health has also tweaked terrain maps, with improvements to zooming and map interaction. It follows earlier navigation work on the watch, including changes introduced through previous Active 3 Premium firmware updates.

Zepp OS 6 rollout continues

The Active 3 Premium joins a growing list of Amazfit watches moving onto the latest platform. We have already covered the main Zepp OS 6 changes, so there is little need to revisit the entire feature set here.

What is notable is the way Zepp Health has introduced the upgrade. Firmware 6.2.204.3 does not advertise Zepp OS 6 in its release notes, even though the watch itself confirms the change after installation. As usual, Amazfit firmware releases roll out gradually, so version 6.2.204.3 may not appear for every Active 3 Premium owner immediately.
