Apple Ring rumours are back on the radar, and the latest word is that Apple is actively messing around with a finger-worn wearable. There is still no firm evidence of a launch, but the idea now feels more plausible as smart rings move from niche gadgets to a serious wearable category.

The latest claim comes from leaker Kosutami, who says Apple is working on an “iRing thing”. He followed up by saying the device would go head-to-head with the Oura Ring and the Samsung Galaxy Ring, but that is literally the entire rumour for now. Kosutami actually has a decent track record with Apple leaks, especially when it comes to unreleased accessories and prototype hardware, so this claim is at least worth keeping on your radar.

iRing thing under development. What a surprise.
— Kosutami (@Kosutami_Ito) June 24, 2026

Why the timing makes more sense now

The last time I touched on the Apple smart ring question was back in late 2024, when reports basically said Apple had put the idea on ice. That is still important context to keep in mind here. Apple has obviously toyed with finger tech in a mountain of patents over the years, but patents are just ideas, not real products.

This new claim does not overturn everything. It simply reopens the question.

The smart ring landscape looks completely different now than it did a couple of years ago. Oura is still the big name everyone knows, but Samsung threw its hat in the ring with the Galaxy Ring, and brands like Amazfit, RingConn, and Ultrahuman have also proved that people actually want these things.

An Apple Ring would make perfect sense for anyone who wants to track their health stats but hates having a screen strapped to their wrist all day long. Sleep tracking is the most obvious reason to get one, along with monitoring resting heart rate, watching temperature trends, and checking recovery insights.

Since Apple is highly unlikely to release a screenless band like a Whoop tracker, a smart ring is easily the next best option for a purely passive health tracker. It perfectly fills an obvious gap in their current hardware lineup.

Apple does not need a tiny Apple Watch

The worst version of this product would try to do too much. An Apple Ring does not need notifications, music controls, gesture gimmicks or app shortcuts. Apple already has a device for that.

A streamlined version makes a lot more sense. You just wear it, sleep with it, let it collect data, and check the results later in Apple Health.

That is where Apple could have an advantage. Oura still faces pushback over its subscription. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring works best inside Samsung’s ecosystem. Apple could make a ring that feels native to the iPhone from day one.

The absolute key to making this work would be restraint. A good Apple Ring needs to focus entirely on comfort, long battery life, reliable health trends, and tight Apple Health integration. It would not need to replace Apple Watch for workouts, calls, maps or payments. It should not try to.

The Apple Watch problem

The Apple Watch is a massive hit, but it isn’t for everyone. Some people don’t want another screen on their body, some hate getting buzzed on their wrist all day, and others just can’t stand sleeping with a watch on. Plenty of people simply prefer wearing a regular, classic watch.

That doesn’t mean they don’t care about tracking their health, it just means the watch itself is the problem. A ring completely fixes that. It gives Apple a alternative way to grab daily and nightly health stats, while opening up a whole new path to people who would never buy an Apple Watch.

That is why the rumour is interesting, even without much detail.

Still, there is no reason to assume Apple Ring is close. Apple tests many products internally and kills plenty of them. This could be a prototype, a research project or a rumour that goes nowhere.

As technology shrinks in size and increases in power, making smart rings is becoming less and less of a challenge. They’ve now hit the mainstream and this space is becoming a bit crowded. In this article we outline our pick of the best options that are out there.

Table of contents

Our pick of the best connected rings
Why get a smart ring?
How to choose the right smart ring
Drawbacks and limitations of smart rings

Our pick of the top connected rings

Indistinguishable from regular jewellery in looks, smart rings are becoming more popular. This is our pick of the best devices that you can purchase today. They combine fashion and technology into some seriously smart wearables.

RingConn Gen 3 – the best value for money smart ring

Tech specs:

Infrared, Red and Green, temperature sensors

Vibration alerts

Vascular trend

Up to 14 days battery life

RingConn has become one of the stronger options in the smart ring market, especially for those interested in sleep, recovery and long-term health trends. Its unobtrusive design still works well for 24/7 wear, while the updated app gives users plenty of data without pushing them into a subscription.

The third generation device is slightly thicker than before. But the trade-off is a larger battery, a new vibration motor, upgraded heart rate sensors, an improved temperature sensor and a newer 3-axis accelerometer. Battery life now stretches up to 14 days, while the universal wireless charging case is easier to live with than the older size-specific setup.

As noted in our hands-on review, Gen 3 stands out for strong sleep tracking, useful recovery-style insights and reliable daily activity monitoring. The new Vascular Trend feature gives it a more distinctive health angle, although it works best as a long-term trend tool rather than a replacement for a blood pressure cuff. Vibration alerts are another useful addition, even if the feature still needs more polish before it reaches its full potential.

RingConn Gen 2 Air remains the cheaper option. That model uses stainless steel rather than titanium, offers up to 10 days of battery life instead of up to 14 days, skips vibration alerts, does not include Vascular Trend and lacks sleep apnea pattern monitoring. It also comes with a wired charging dock rather than the Gen 3 universal wireless charging case.

Bottom line: RingConn Gen 3’s features, hardware and performance make it one of the most compelling alternatives to Oura Ring. It is comfortable, long-lasting and health-focused, with no monthly subscription fees. The exercise heart rate tracking still has limits at higher intensities, but for passive health tracking it is one of the best smart rings around.

RingConn*

Helio Ring – best for exercise tracking

Tech specs:

Titanium-alloy build.

BioTracker PPG HR sensor, temperature, EDA, 4-Axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope

Around 4 days battery life

10 ATM water resistance

The $299 Amazfit Helio Ring is an exciting addition to the smart ring market. Though its Recovery Score can be inconsistent, the ring shines in several different areas. Its comfortable, sleek design and precise heart rate tracking during workouts make it a great choice for runners.

As per our hands-on review, the device offers comprehensive health and fitness tracking, a user-friendly app, and great battery life – making it a strong competitor among smart rings. While the Zepp Aura subscription unlocks premium features, the free app version still provides valuable insights.

Bottom line: If you want a reliable, stylish smart ring that prioritizes fitness tracking, the Amazfit Helio Ring is definitely worth considering. Particularly if you own an Amazfit watch. Its performance, particularly in heart rate monitoring during exercise makes it a valuable asset for those who want to improve their workouts and overall health.

Amazfit*

Ultrahuman Ring Air – a great lifestyle improvement device

Tech specs:

Fighter jet grade Titanium reinforced with Tungsten Carbide Carbon coating outer shell.

Infrared, Red and Green, temperature sensors.

Around 6 days battery life

5 ATM water resistance

The Ultrahuman Ring Air distinguishes itself in the crowded smart ring arena with an insightful app that does more than just display metrics; it educates users about their health. Notable for its decently accurate heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep tracking, the device also incorporates unique features like a circadian clock and stimulant restriction window.

As noted in our hands-on review, its comfortable, lightweight design and long-lasting battery make it easy to wear continuously. Frequent updates continue to add value.

That said, the device isn’t without its imperfections. Both the step count and some Beta features could benefit from fine-tuning to achieve better accuracy. Additionally, the app’s interface could be simplified for an improved user experience. Nonetheless, the Ultrahuman Ring Air presents a compelling package, especially given its lack of subscription fees and a $350 retail price, making it a viable, cost-effective option for those looking to delve deeper into their health and wellness.

Bottom line: The Ultrahuman Ring Air offers valuable health insights in a comfortable design. Despite minor flaws, its unique features and competitive pricing make it a solid choice for health tracking.

Amazon | Ultrahuman*

Ōura Ring 5: The best smart ring, but expensive

Tech specs:

PPG, negative temperature coefficient sensor, 3D accelerometer for movement

Lightweight titanium with non-allergenic, non-metallic inner molding build

Free sizing kit

Up to 9 days battery life

40% thinner than before

The Oura smart ring puts lots of emphasis on sleep.
The 5th generation device brings a smaller and lighter design, with Oura claiming a 40 percent reduction in size compared with Oura Ring 4. It measures 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick, with weight starting from 2 grams depending on size. The ring keeps the titanium build, 100-meter water resistance and IP68 rating, but the sensing system has been rebuilt with a new internal layout.

Battery life is now up to 6 to 9 days, depending on ring size and usage. Oura is also introducing an optional portable charging case, sold separately, which can provide up to a month of extra battery life. That makes Ring 5 a little easier to live with when travelling.

The software side is expanding too. Oura is adding features such as Health Radar, live activity tracking, GLP-1 medication tracking, clinical data uploads and improved Locate tools, with several additions also coming to older Oura rings. The subscription model remains, with the first month free for new members, then $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year in the US.

Bottom line: Oura Ring 5 is a thinner, lighter and more comfortable version of one of the best-known smart rings. The rebuilt sensors and smaller design make it a stronger option for sleep, recovery and long-term health tracking. But it remains pricier than much of the competition, especially once the subscription is factored in.

This one is slightly different from other options on this list. The Wellue O2Ring predominantly does one main thing and it does it with medical grade accuracy – it tracks your blood oxygen. In fact, it is FDA approved for this sort of thing. Other stats that you’ll get are heart rate and body movement.

The device has a built-in vibration motor that kicks into gear when it sees something out of whack. You’ll get an alert if your blood oxygen level or heart rate are outside of threshold you preset on the smartphone app.

There’s also the option of installing PC software in addition to the smartphone app. The software allows you to view and print a very detailed sleep report, which can also be exported as PDF or CSV files.

In our review, we found the device works really well. The ring is quite big in size so it is not something you would want to wear around the clock. But for measurements at home, in the office, or overnight it is quite useful.

It is worth noting the WellueO2 Ring is slightly more expensive than a typical fingertip pulse oximeter. But if you need overnight monitoring with alarms and long term tracking then it is probably the best option out there. For some, it might become their most important piece of jewelry.

Bottom line: The WellueO2 Ring is not your typical smart ring. Its main trick is that it monitors blood oxygen while you sleep. It will also alert you if it spots abnormalities.

The second watch from a big smartwatch brand (after Zepp Health), the Samsung Galaxy Ring combines health tracking technology with a minimalist ring design. Using advanced sensors, it monitors metrics including heart rate, sleep patterns, and skin temperature, sending data to the Samsung Health app for analysis. The ring features a titanium casing available in multiple finishes, offering water resistance up to 100 meters and a battery life of up to 7 days.

AI-driven features include Energy Score, which optimizes daily activity recommendations based on sleep and previous performance data. The ring automatically detects workouts and provides personalized Wellness Tips. For added convenience, users can control their phone’s camera or alarms using a Double Pinch gesture.

Samsung offers the Galaxy Ring in Titanium Black, Gold, and Silver, with nine size options for optimal fit. The device’s ultra-lightweight, concave design ensures comfort during extended wear.

Bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Ring offers comprehensive health tracking in an elegant, durable design that seamlessly integrates with the Galaxy ecosystem. It’s an ideal choice for existing Samsung wearable users looking to expand their wellness monitoring capabilities while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.

Why get a smart ring?

Research suggests that we check our phone every six and a half minutes and much of this results from notifications that do not really interest us or can wait for us to attend to them later. With your cellular device tucked away in your pocket or bag, you can use a piece of jewelry to attend to only those notifications that deserve your attention. The rest can wait.

But potential use of smart rings goes further. Because your fingers have easy-to-sense arteries, some of these devices are also able to gather precise data on your body’s vital signals. They do this with sensors such as a 3d accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate blood oxygen sensor and more. Much like fitness trackers.

Then there are smart rings that can be used to open a door lock or a smartphone or even send SOS messages. Such an accessory can be an easier option to use for some than a smartwatch. It is all a matter of preference. Some people are a fan of the concept, others are very much against it and prefer something sitting on their wrist.

How to choose the right smart ring

The right smart ring for you can be determined by a number of factors, including your specific needs, lifestyle, and personal style. Before making a decision, it is worthwhile to conduct some research and carefully consider your options. Here’s are some things to keep in mind:

Determine your needs: The first step in selecting a smart ring is determining what you require it for. Do you want it to track your health and fitness, make contactless payments, control smart home devices, or provide security? The features you require will have a significant impact on your smart ring selection.

Check compatibility: Make sure the smart ring you’re thinking about buying is compatible with your smartphone or other devices. Some smart rings are only compatible with certain operating systems or versions.

Consider the design: A smart ring is a piece of jewellery as well as a functional device. When selecting a smart ring, keep your personal style and comfort in mind. Examine the available designs, materials, and colour schemes. Some brands also provide custom designs.

Examine the battery life: The battery life of smart rings varies greatly. Determine how frequently you will need to charge the ring. Some rings can last for several days on a single charge, while others must be charged on a daily basis.

Examine health and wellness features: If you want to track your health and wellness, see what sensors and features the smart ring has. Sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, temperature monitoring, and so on.

Examine security features: If you intend to use your smart ring to make payments or unlock devices, look into its security features. Biometric authentication, encryption, or a secure app could all be used.

Consider the price: Smart rings range in price depending on their features and brand. Determine your budget and compare the features and quality of various rings within it. Also, keep in mind that some options come with an on-going monthly subscription fee.

Examine the reviews and ratings: Examine user reviews and ratings to get a sense of the smart ring’s performance and dependability. Take note of comments about comfort, durability, tracking accuracy, and customer service.

Drawbacks or limitations of smart rings

Smart rings, though innovative and compact, come with their own specific set of limitations. The most obvious is that, because of their small size, they house limited battery capacity. Which means frequent charging. Typically you can expect the battery in your smart ring to last 3-4 days.

Another disadvantage is that, being worn on the finger, they’re more exposed to wear and tear from everyday activities. Rings from certain manufacturers are prone to cratching. So that’s something to be aware of.

Finally, there are no smart rings currently with a display. In fact you will struggle to find one with any sort of notification capability.

For another year, Apple Watch is running an activity challenge on June 21st to mark the International Day of Yoga.

This the chance to recognise the ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The day has been celebrated internationally since 2014, when the United Nationals officially deemed it as Yoga Day.

The health benefits of this type of exercise are numerous. They include everything from improving mental well-being to injury prevention. If you’ve never tried it now might be a good time to give it a go.

Apple Yoga Day challenge

Since 2019 the Cupertino outfit has been running an Apple Yoga challenge to mark the occasion. To earn the badge users will need to complete a yoga workout of 10 minutes or more on June 21st. That’s half the length that was required in some of the previous years.

Share your practice with the planet on the International Day of Yoga. Record a yoga workout of 10 minutes or more on June 21 to earn this award.

Just make sure to record with an app that syncs yoga workouts with the Health app. You can also register the activity with Apple Fitness+.

As usual, those who successfully complete the task will be rewarded with animated stickers that can be used in Messages and FaceTime. They’ll also see a virtual trophy in the Achievements tab of the iPhone Activity app.

Apple Watch has had native support for yoga workouts since the introduction of watchOS 5. The functionality allows users to track various types of yoga sessions, from restorative to power vinyasa flow.

Apple’s watchOS 27 compatibility list has landed badly with some Apple Watch owners. Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2 and the first Apple Watch Ultra are all outside the update path, despite many of them still feeling perfectly usable.

The reaction is not hard to understand. These are watches many people still use every day, and some of them do not feel old enough to be cut loose from Apple’s next major software update.

Owners are annoyed for a simple reason

The frustration is not really about watchOS 27 itself. Most users are not desperate for every new feature, and many will barely notice the missing software tricks on day one.

The annoyance comes from the feeling that Apple has moved the line too soon. Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra both arrived in 2022, which makes the cutoff feel sharper than a normal ageing-out process. These are not forgotten models sitting in drawers. Plenty of people still use them for workouts, sleep tracking, Apple Pay, notifications and health data.

That is why the reaction has been stronger than Apple may have expected. Owners are looking at watches that still run well and wondering why they are already outside the main update path. The answer may sit inside Apple’s hardware requirements, but the customer-facing message is much simpler. Their watch still feels fine, yet Apple has decided it is done with major watchOS releases.

Series 8 and SE 2 owners have a point

The original Apple Watch Ultra will get much of the attention because it was the expensive model. But Series 8 and SE 2 owners have just as much reason to be irritated.

Series 8 was not a minor product. It brought temperature sensing and crash detection, and its health and fitness package still covers most of what ordinary Apple Watch users rely on. For someone who bought it late in its retail cycle, missing watchOS 27 will feel abrupt.

The SE 2 cut is also awkward. Apple sells the SE line as the more affordable way into the Apple Watch ecosystem. That pitch works only if buyers feel they still get a decent support window. Once a value model loses major updates quickly, the value argument starts to look weaker.

This does not make the watches useless

Of course, Apple has not switched these watches off. They still work just fine.

The issue is what happens next. App support can narrow over time. New iPhone features may not connect as neatly with older watchOS versions. Some fixes and refinements may skip unsupported models.

That is the part owners are pushing back against. They are not saying their watches are broken. They are saying Apple has shortened the road ahead while the hardware still feels capable.

This also changes how discounted Apple Watches should be viewed. A cheaper older model may look tempting, but the remaining software window now needs to be part of the calculation. Saving money upfront is less attractive if the watch is close to dropping off major updates.

This changes the value calculation

Owners do not need to rush out and replace a working watch. If a Series 8, SE 2 or Ultra 1 still tracks your workouts, handles notifications and gets through the day, it still has a job to do.

The problem is what this says about buying an Apple Watch now. A discounted older model may look like a good deal, but the remaining software window has to be part of the price. Saving money upfront looks less attractive if the watch is already close to missing major updates.

That is where watchOS 27 leaves a mark. Apple has not made these older watches useless, but it has made them less attractive as long-term buys.

The World Cup 2026 is now under way and there are a few decent ways to follow scores, fixtures and standings from a smartwatch. Apple Watch, Wear OS and Garmin users all have options, although the best choice depends on whether you want alerts, a proper app or a live watch face.

FotMob is the easiest all-round pick

FotMob is probably the most practical choice for most football fans. The app has World Cup 2026 support, live scores, match stats, alerts, highlights and Live Activities for Apple Watch.

For those with an iPhone, FotMob says users can follow matches from the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, as well as the Apple Watch, with Live Activities dressed in country colours. It also has updated widgets for the group stage and knockouts.

There is also an Android version of FotMob on Google Play. The listing says the app offers live scores, detailed stats, breaking news and personalised alerts. So that’s great for users who mainly want reliable football coverage without hunting around for a dedicated tournament-only tool.

The appeal here is simple. FotMob is not just a World Cup app. It is a football app that has been updated for the World Cup, so it should remain useful after the tournament ends.

Apple Watch users have a few other solid routes

Apple Watch users can also use Apple Sports. Apple says the app can show live scores and play updates on Apple Watch through Live Activities, as long as the user has iOS 18 and watchOS 11 or later.

That makes Apple Sports a good low-friction option if you already live inside Apple’s ecosystem. It is not as football-focused as FotMob, but it does the basic live score job cleanly.

OneFootball is another option. Its App Store listing includes Apple Watch support and World Cup 2026 coverage, with live scores, goal alerts and match results.

For iPhone users, the choice probably comes down to how much detail they want. Apple Sports is cleaner and more minimal, FotMob gives you deeper football coverage and OneFootball sits somewhere between live scores, alerts and football news.

Wear OS has apps and watch faces

Wear OS users have two different routes. They can install a football scores app such as the above mentioned FotMob. They could also opt for SofaScore, or go for a World Cup watch face.

SofaScore’s Google Play listing says the app is optimised for Wear OS smartwatches. It covers live sports scores and detailed statistics, so it is worth a look if you prefer a broader sports app rather than a football-only one.

The more interesting Wear OS option is Kick It, a free World Cup watch face from Facer and Citizen. It pulls tournament data onto the watch face, including live scores, standings, team records and match status.

There are limits. Kick It currently works for users in the US, Canada, Japan and the UK on watches running Wear OS 6, with an EU launch planned. So it looks useful, but it will not be available to every Wear OS owner.

If your watch supports it, the benefit is obvious. You do not need to open an app just to see what is happening. The score sits on the face itself.

Garmin users get a dedicated World Cup face

Garmin owners should look at WC2026 Live Pro on Connect IQ. It is a watch face rather than a normal app, but it is built specifically for the 2026 tournament.

The face shows live scores, daily fixtures and group standings directly on the watch. It also adjusts kick-off times to the local time zone, which is handy for a tournament spread across multiple time zones.

There is also a favourite team feature. That lets the watch keep your chosen team more visible, even when it is not playing that day.

This is probably the neatest setup for Garmin users because it uses the watch face itself instead of relying on phone alerts. The trade-off is that it is more specialised than FotMob or SofaScore, so its usefulness will drop sharply once the tournament ends.

The official FIFA app is still worth having

The official FIFA World Cup 2026 app is also worth a look. It covers fixtures, schedules, live scores, stats, line-ups and real-time updates. But be warned – the software is very poorly rated by users with 2.1 stars out of a possible 5.

Or you could opt for Flashscore. Which has live World Cup results, match updates, stats and group standings.

For the watch, though, I would narrow it down. Apple Watch users should start with FotMob or Apple Sports. Wear OS users should look at FotMob, SofaScore or Kick It if their watch supports it. Garmin users have the cleanest tournament-specific option with WC2026 Live Pro.

Telegram has returned to smartwatches with official apps for Wear OS and Apple Watch. The update brings back first-party watch support and gives users more than just basic phone notifications.

Apple Watch support first arrived back in 2015. That early version belonged to a very different smartwatch era, when third-party watch apps were still finding their feet and most messaging tools on the wrist felt fairly basic. The app was later dropped out of view leaving users without software for years. As far as Wear OS, Telegram removed its support for that operating system in 2021.

This new release closes that gap on both sides.

What the new Telegram watch apps can do

The new watch apps give users direct access to chats from the wrist. That means you can open Telegram on Wear OS or Apple Watch, browse conversations, read longer messages and check shared media without waiting for a phone notification to appear.

Voice messages are part of the package too. That is useful for Telegram because many conversations on the service are built around group chats, media sharing and quick voice notes rather than simple one-line replies.

The apps also support replies from the wrist, either by text or voice. So the feature set is quite comprehensive.

What’s worth noting, there are some differences between platforms at launch. Wear OS users can mute and pin chats, as well as delete messages from the watch. Apple Watch users, on the other hand, get location viewing and sticker support.

Telegram says the missing tools should come to each platform in the next update. For now, the two versions overlap on the main features but differ on some controls.

Why this is better than notifications

Telegram alerts could already appear on smartwatches through the phone’s normal notification system. That is useful for quick glances, but it only reacts to incoming messages.

The new apps change the interaction. Users can open Telegram directly on the watch, go into chats, check older messages, view shared media and listen to voice notes without waiting for a fresh alert.

That makes the watch more useful for sorting small Telegram interactions. You can see whether a message needs a reply, send a short voice or text response and leave the longer stuff for the phone.

It also avoids the biggest limitation of notification-only use. If the alert is dismissed or buried, you are not stuck going back to the phone just to find the conversation again.

For a messaging app built around busy group chats, voice notes and shared media, that is a better fit for the wrist. The watch still stays in its lane, but Telegram now gives it enough to do that the app feels worth keeping there.

Source: Telegram

Apple used WWDC26 to introduce watchOS 27, with Siri AI, wider Apple Intelligence support and new women’s health tracking among the main Apple Watch changes.

The company opened its keynote from Apple Park in Cupertino. The developer conference continues through June 12, but the keynote was the main public event where Apple set out its next round of software updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro.

For Apple Watch users, the focus was watchOS 27. This was not a hardware launch, as Apple normally saves new Watch models for later in the year. But the software still gives a clear steer on where the wrist platform is heading, especially around Siri, Apple Intelligence, health tracking and everyday usability.

Siri AI comes to the wrist

This year it is all about AI. So it should come as no surprise that the main Apple Watch change in watchOS 27 is a custom version of Siri AI built for smaller screens.

Apple says users will be able to ask questions and take actions from the wrist. That makes Siri AI more useful on Apple Watch than a simple voice search tool, assuming it can handle real tasks reliably. The watch has always needed a better assistant because typing, tapping and scrolling on a small display only gets you so far.

The AI conversation also syncs across Apple devices through iCloud. That means a Siri AI interaction does not have to stay trapped on the watch. A user could start from the wrist and continue elsewhere, which fits how Apple devices already work together.

Apple has also placed Siri AI inside a redesigned app grid in watchOS 27. That is a small interface detail, but it shows Apple wants the feature to feel like part of the normal watch experience rather than a separate AI layer bolted on top.

Unfortunately, Siri AI will have a limited launch. The European Union and China are excluded at first, so Apple Watch users there may get watchOS 27 before the new AI assistant features arrive.

Apple Intelligence leans on private cloud computing

Apple Intelligence features on watchOS 27 will use private cloud computing rather than relying on full on-device processing. That makes sense for the Apple Watch. The device has limited space, battery and thermal room compared with an iPhone or Mac, so heavier AI processing needs a different route.

The privacy claim is the important bit here. Apple says the data used for these features cannot be accessed by Apple or third parties. That gives the company a cleaner argument than simply saying it has added AI to the watch.

For wearables, privacy is not just a marketing line. The Apple Watch handles health, location, activity and personal routine data. If Apple wants users to ask more from Siri AI on the wrist, it needs to explain clearly where that data goes and what happens to it.

Smaller changes may be the ones users notice

watchOS 27 is not only about Siri AI. Apple has also added a batch of smaller Apple Watch improvements that should show up in daily use. These include faster music playback, improved Wi-Fi connectivity, quicker app extension launch times and battery optimisation suggestions.

Fitness app step count also now syncs with Health app steps. That should reduce some of the mismatch between Apple’s own activity and health data, which always felt oddly messy for such a polished ecosystem.

Find My also gets cleaned up. Apple has combined Find Devices, Find People and Find Items into a single Apple Watch app with a map-centric view. That should make the feature easier to use from the wrist, especially when trying to locate a person, device or item quickly.

Wallet and Smart Stack get attention too. Apple says Wallet can now create custom passes for cards that use a QR code or barcode, such as a library card, then make them available in Wallet or Smart Stack. Transit cards and IDs can also appear in Smart Stack, alongside new Smart Stack suggestions.

Call Context is another addition. When calling a business, Apple Watch can surface relevant information, such as a confirmation code from Mail when calling an airline. Apple says the feature is coming in English.

Workout Buddy gets more useful

Workout Buddy also gets attention in watchOS 27. Apple says it now uses fitness history to deliver more specific insights, including progress around pace, distance and workout duration.

The useful bit is that Workout Buddy can now work without the iPhone nearby. That makes it more relevant for runners and gym users who train with only the watch. Apple is also adding Spanish support, which broadens the feature beyond its initial language setup.

Cycle tracking adds perimenopause support

Cycle Tracking in the Health app can now provide notifications when logged cycle patterns are suggestive of perimenopause. Users can also track related symptoms and access educational resources.

Apple is not saying the watch diagnoses perimenopause or menopause. It is looking at logged cycle patterns and flagging possible deviations for users aged 40 and above.

This moves Apple’s women’s health tools further into longer-term health context. It is still not a medical diagnosis, but it gives users another reason to keep cycle data inside the Health app rather than using a separate tracker.

Compatibility

Apple’s watchOS 27 page lists support for Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. It seems Series 9 will also support the new operating system, despite it being left off the list initially.

The update also needs a paired iPhone running iOS 27. Apple says that means iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE 2nd generation or later. So compatibility depends on both the watch and the phone.

That makes this a more limited update than expected. Owners of older Apple Watch models should check Apple’s final compatibility list before assuming they will get watchOS 27.

Apple is bringing back its Global Running Day Activity Challenge on Wednesday, June 3, with Apple Watch users asked to record a run of at least 5K. Complete it and you unlock a dedicated Fitness app award, along with animated stickers for Messages.

The workout can be logged through Apple’s own Workout app. Third-party running apps should also work if they write workout data to Health. That gives users some flexibility if they prefer apps such as Strava, Nike Run Club or other platforms instead of Apple’s Workout app.

All of this means there’s no complicated target or need to close all three rings this time around. Simply run the distance on the day and the badge should appear in the Fitness app once the workout syncs.

A small badge, but a smart nudge

These limited-edition awards are not exactly life-changing, but Apple knows how to use them. They sit somewhere between a digital sticker and a behavioural nudge, which is probably why they work better than they should.

A 5K target also makes sense for Global Running Day. It is long enough to feel like a proper run, but not so long that it excludes casual runners. For many Apple Watch owners, this will be a reason to swap a short walk for a jog or to finally use the running workout mode again.

Apple is also adding animated stickers for Messages, which users can send after completing the challenge. Here they are.

Apple keeps using seasonal fitness prompts

Apple has marked Global Running Day with an Apple Watch challenge since 2024, so this is now becoming part of its yearly fitness calendar. The 2026 running challenge follows Apple’s recent Earth Day and International Dance Day Activity Challenges from April.

The Global Running Day challenge also lands at a useful time of year. Early June is a natural point for outdoor running in many markets, with better weather and longer evenings. Apple is clearly leaning into that timing.

The Apple Watch is once again being linked with blood pressure tracking, but the latest claim is not quite the breakthrough some users want. The report points to a high blood pressure notification feature under FDA review, which sounds useful but still short of full cuff-style readings.

A familiar feature with a possible twist

The awkward part is that Apple already has hypertension notifications. These arrived with watchOS 26 and use the optical heart sensor to analyse how blood vessels respond over time, looking for patterns that may suggest high blood pressure.

This new report from Digitimes describes another high blood pressure notification feature that also appears to use the optical heart-rate sensor on the back of the watch. That makes the distinction slightly muddy. It could mean Apple has a more clinically validated version waiting for regulatory clearance, or it could mean the existing feature has a more advanced implementation tied to newer hardware.

The report says the feature remains under FDA review. That is the key bit here. It suggests Apple may have something it does not yet want to switch on publicly, either because it needs clearance or because it wants to launch it with the next Apple Watch generation.

For users, the obvious question is whether this means real blood pressure readings. Right now, it does not sound like that. The wording points to notifications rather than systolic and diastolic numbers, so this still looks more like pattern detection than cuff-style measurement.

Ultra 4 may be the bigger story

The same report links the health feature to Apple Watch Ultra 4, which is expected to bring a redesign and upgraded sensing hardware. Previous supply chain chatter has pointed to exterior changes and a new rear sensor arrangement, including a ring-like layout with more sensors.

That would make sense if Apple wants better signal quality from the underside of the watch. Blood pressure estimation is difficult from the wrist, especially if Apple wants to avoid a cuff. Better optical hardware could help Apple detect vascular patterns more reliably, even if it still stops short of giving full blood pressure values.

Still, the report does not clearly say whether older models will support it. That point needs caution. Apple may bring the feature to several models if the existing optical sensor can handle it, or it may reserve the improved version for new watches with updated hardware.

The blood glucose line needs caution

The report also mentions noninvasive blood glucose monitoring as Apple’s next stage after high blood pressure notifications. That sounds exciting, but it also needs a large pinch of salt.

Apple has worked on noninvasive glucose monitoring for years. The technical challenge remains huge because glucose measurement needs accuracy in a way that general wellness trends do not. A weak or inconsistent reading could create more problems than it solves.

So this should not be read as a sign that Apple Watch Ultra 4 will suddenly measure blood glucose. The safer reading is that Apple continues to work on it and that regulatory approval would be needed before anything public appears.

Useful, but not the full answer yet

The frustration is that Apple Watch blood pressure rumours have been around for years. Many people want actual readings, not another alert that tells them to use a cuff. That is understandable, especially when cheaper wearables often claim to offer blood pressure numbers, even if the reliability can be questionable.

Apple tends to move slower in health because it usually wants regulatory cover and a defensible method. That can make the Watch feel behind rivals on spec sheets, but it also reduces the chance of pushing out a feature that creates false confidence.

Apple has confirmed the full WWDC 2026 schedule, with the main keynote set for June 8. The event will be free to watch online, with Apple also teasing the conference using the phrase “Coming Bright Up”, which is already pointing speculation toward Siri and Apple Intelligence.

This is an annual event where Apple lays out its new software across iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Vision Pro and its wider developer ecosystem. This year, the software story feels unusually loaded because Apple still has unfinished business with the smarter Siri experience it first previewed back in 2024.

The keynote is now locked in

The public-facing keynote takes place on June 8 at 10 a.m. PT, which works out as 6 p.m. in the UK. That is the one most users will care about, as it should bring the first proper look at iOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, visionOS 27 and the next round of Apple Intelligence features.

Apple will follow that with the Platforms State of the Union at 1 p.m. PT. That session usually goes deeper into the tools and platform changes developers need to know about, so it tends to be more technical and less polished for a mainstream audience.

The wider WWDC week will include more than 100 session videos, live online group labs, Apple Developer Forums, one-on-one appointments and community events. Apple is also using the event to highlight the 2026 Apple Design Award finalists, which gives the week its usual mix of software, developer tools and app design recognition.

The Siri question is hard to avoid

The more interesting part is the tease. Apple’s “Coming Bright Up” wording, paired with a glowing WWDC graphic, feels like the sort of vague Apple hint that can mean several things at once.

The obvious read is Siri. Apple has delayed the more personal version of Siri that was supposed to understand context, work across apps and act more like a useful assistant than a voice command layer. WWDC 2026 now looks like the obvious place for Apple to explain where that work stands.

That does not mean Apple will suddenly solve everything in one keynote. But the company needs to show clear progress, especially after Google, OpenAI and others have moved quickly in consumer AI. Apple’s angle will almost certainly lean on privacy, on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, but it also needs to show users something practical.

For Apple Watch users, that could be especially interesting. Siri still feels underused on the wrist, despite the watch being one of the most natural places for quick voice interactions. A smarter Siri could make watchOS more useful for health queries, workout context, reminders and app actions, provided Apple gives it enough access to do real work.

The risk is that Apple keeps things too cautious. If Siri only gains a refreshed look and a few controlled demos, WWDC 2026 may feel like another promise-heavy update. If Apple shows deeper app actions and proper context awareness, this could be the first sign of a more useful software layer across its devices.

A free online event with plenty for developers

Apple is keeping WWDC online and free, which has become the standard format in recent years. Developers can follow sessions through the Apple Developer app and Apple Developer YouTube channel, then join group labs and forum sessions through the week.

That format works well because the keynote is only the surface layer. The real detail usually arrives later, when developers start digging through APIs, beta software and session videos. That is also when the more practical changes become clear, including what new features actually require newer hardware.

For users, the main thing to know is simple. June 8 is when Apple shows the direction of its next software cycle, and this year the pressure sits squarely on AI. The company has teased enough, delayed enough and watched enough competitors move ahead. WWDC 2026 now needs to show whether Apple’s slower approach can still produce something more useful.
