Zepp Health’s stock grew nearly tenfold in 2025, while Garmin stayed flat and Mobvoi fell. Alphabet and Samsung delivered strong double-digit gains, while Apple and Xiaomi rose modestly.

It’s the end of the year, so now’s a good time to take stock – literally. The focus here is smartwatch and fitness band makers. We’re looking at how their publicly traded shares performed across the full 12 months of 2025, comparing opening and closing prices, and highlighting which names delivered the biggest returns for investors.

Table of 2025 stock performance

Here’s a snapshot of how major listed smartwatch and fitness band makers performed from the start to the end of 2025.

A volatile year for the standout winner

Zepp Health delivered the most eye-catching return of 2025. It began the year trading at 2.60 dollars, climbed to a high of over 60, and closed at 27.43. That’s a gain of 955 percent, turning every thousand invested into over ten grand.

But the path there wasn’t smooth. The stock was actually one of the most volatile in the sector, reflecting both speculative interest and uncertainty.

Its steep rise coincided with a broader push into hardware and work on developing its health tracking platform. Investors appeared to respond not just to products like the Balance 2 and Helio series, but to the shift in Zepp Health’s positioning from budget-focused brand to a company that is closing the gap on main players such as Garmin. It is also likely that its stock was undervalued at the beginning of the year.

So if you invested in Zepp Health 12 months ago you’d be much better off today. But if you invested in the middle of the year, you could be sitting on a big loss. Timing is everything.

Comparing general tech giants and wearable-first brands

While Zepp Health is a wearable pure play, many others on the list are not. Apple, Xiaomi, Alphabet and Samsung generate most of their revenue from smartphones, services, cloud infrastructure or chips. That means their stock movements reflect far more than just their wearable product lines.

Apple posted a modest 9.11 percent gain, ending the year at 273.23 dollars. It was a relatively quiet year for Apple Watch, and although new features arrived, investor focus remained on AI, Mac sales, and regulatory news.

Alphabet did much better, climbing 66 percent. The market rewarded its software convergence story as Fitbit and Pixel Watch moved closer together, backed by a cleaner wearables UI and better integration across devices.

Samsung doubled its share price and is closing the year at highs. Though wearable performance contributed, the result also came from strong memory sales, chip growth and AI tools baked into its Android ecosystem.

Xiaomi had a smaller rise, closing the year up just under 16 percent. It was helped by growth across its product categories, not just smart bands.

Citizen’s return of nearly 39 percent is notable given it rarely dominates headlines. The Japanese watchmaker continues to explore hybrid and connected watches in niche segments, and investor confidence seems to have ticked upward despite limited smartwatch exposure compared to others in the list.

Garmin and Mobvoi struggled to excite investors

Garmin’s stock dipped slightly across the year, despite strong product updates in its Fenix, Venu and Forerunner lines. It’s not a failure, but it reflects a flat investor response to premium multi-sport watches that increasingly face pressure from cheaper competitors and alternative form factors like rings and patches. Also, the market reacted negatively in October to lower growth projections.

Mobvoi saw a bigger drop, ending the year down 21.7 percent. Its TicWatch line remains active and competitive in terms of specs, but visibility in Western markets is patchy. The company may also be pulling back from the smartwatch space and focusing on AI devices, instead.

Fossil is publicly traded. But the once smartwatch player, has now stepped back from the space to refocus on traditional watches. Hence, we have not included it in the comparisons.

Key wearable brands missing from public markets

You’ll notice that some of the biggest names in wearables don’t appear in this kind of stock roundup. Huawei remains a private firm, as does Polar. Suunto is now owned by Liesheng and is not listed. BBK Electronics, the parent of OnePlus and Oppo, does not offer a way to invest directly in wearables as a standalone vertical.

Whoop and Withings are also not publicly traded companies. CEO of Whoop Will Ahmed indicated in late 2025 that a public listing is more likely within the next two years, targeting a 2027 window rather than 2026.

This limits investor access to several high-volume or long-standing wearable brands, making the list of trackable public stocks narrower than one might expect given the size of the market.

Our takeaway

2025 was a mixed year for wearable tech stocks. Zepp Health delivered the highest return by far, while Alphabet, Samsung, and Citizen also posted strong gains. At the other end of the table, Garmin and Mobvoi struggled to gain traction, closing the year below or near where they started. The rest fell somewhere in between, with modest positive returns that mostly mirrored broader market trends.

As we head into 2026, this snapshot provides a useful benchmark. Some companies will look to hold their ground, others will try to recover lost value, and a few may aim to sustain the momentum they built over the past twelve months. Share prices will continue to reflect more than just wearable performance, but the sector remains one of the more dynamic corners of consumer tech

Fossil Group, once a titan in the Wear OS smartwatch landscape, has bid farewell to the market. The company’s decision to discontinue production and the subsequent disappearance of smartwatches from their website marks the end of an era.

Fossil’s rise in the smartwatch market

Fossil’s foray into smartwatches wasn’t about bleeding-edge technology but about marrying fashion with functionality. Their Wear OS devices, sold under various brands. This includes Diesel, Michael Kors, Armani Exchange, and Skagen.

These timepieces offered a stylish alternative to the tech-focused smartwatches that dominated the early market. Fossil’s approach appealed to a broad audience seeking a wearable device that was as much a fashion accessory as it was a technological tool.

The winds of change

The smartwatch landscape evolved and, around the time of Wear OS 3’s release, Fossil’s position began to falter. The decision to halt smartwatch production, came as a surprise to many. We’re not sure of the exact reasons. Having said that, it’s clear that Fossil likely found it difficult to keep pace with the rapid advancements and increased complexities within the smartwatch market.

“As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business,” Fossil spokesperson Amanda Castelli explained earlier this year.

Inventory depletion and questions of support

With Fossil’s official exit, smartwatch listings on their website have been replaced (in the past few days) with messages of unavailability or the inability to locate products. Prior to that, the company ran a sale with some discounts reaching an incredible 75%. It is clear now that Fossil was aiming to clear out the remaining stock.

Some of its watches can still be found on platforms like Amazon. But those considering a purchase should be aware that the future of software updates and support from Fossil remains uncertain. Buying a discontinued smartwatch means potentially missing out on critical security fixes, feature updates, and compatibility with newer smartphone models. So if you do opt for a purchase, at leat wait until the watches are heavily discounted.

Wear OS: Losing its fashion flair

Fossil’s departure leaves a sizable hole in the Wear OS ecosystem. Their focus on style and design brought a unique appeal, catering to a segment of the market that prioritized aesthetics alongside tech functionality. Not everyone was a fan, but the company did have a following.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

With Fossil Group gone, Wear OS loses a significant player and a major source of fashion-conscious wearables. This leaves tech-heavy brands like Samsung, Google Pixel Watch, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Mobvoi to dominate the space. It remains to be seen if other fashion brands will venture into the smartwatch space in the future, or if this marks a definitive shift towards the dominance of technology companies in the Wear OS world.

Fossil Group has officially announced its departure from the smartwatch market segment. Known for its extensive range of WearOS watches under various sub-brands, the Fossil’s exit marks the end of an era. The company’s decision, while not entirely unexpected, follows months of speculation and hints on platforms like Reddit, although these were initially unconfirmed.

A shift in strategy

The signs of Fossil’s strategic shift were evident, given the lack of new smartwatch releases in recent times. The last notable launch from the company was the Gen 6 Hybrid Wellness Edition, unveiled just over a year ago. Since then, the company has maintained a conspicuous silence. There have been rumours in recent months, though, of shop keepers telling customers there will probably never be new wearOS watches from Fossil. And that they are selling all of their stock, and that’s it.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Many had actually anticipated the debut of the Gen 7 watches in 2022 or early 2023, following the pattern of annual releases established since the original launch of the Gen 6 lineup in August 2021. We’ve actually grown accustomed to Fossil releasing the next generation lineup every year. However, this expectation has now been clarified with the company’s latest announcement.

According to a statement given to The Verge by Fossil spokesperson Amanda Castelli, the company is realigning its focus.

“As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business,” Castelli explained.

Fossil Group plans to redirect its resources toward strengthening its core businesses, which include traditional watches, jewelry, and leather goods, both under its own and licensed brand names.

The future of WearOS and Fossil’s legacy

Fossil Group’s contribution to keeping WearOS relevant over the years is undeniable. However, the company’s withdrawal raises questions about its future involvement in the smartwatch sector. It’s worth noting that Fossil also offers a range of hybrid watches that do not operate on Google’s platform.

In October, Fossil updated its Gen 6 watches to WearOS 3.5, bringing performance enhancements, battery life optimization, a new interface design, along with improved fitness tracking. This update leaves current Fossil smartwatch owners wondering about the level of ongoing product support.

The Fossil representative assured The Verge that the company intends to continue updating existing Wear OS watches “for the next few years.” Yet, it remains to be seen how much effort and resources Fossil will allocate to these updates, now that they have shifted their focus away from this business.

The departure of a pivotal player like Fossil from the smartwatch industry undeniably affects the landscape of WearOS, a platform they significantly helped develop and popularize. This move casts a shadow on the future prospects of Google’s smartwatch operating system and the broader wearable market. For Android phone users seeking diverse smartwatch options, this development is less than ideal.

The countdown to the biggest tech show on earth is on. Scheduled to take place in Las Vegas in a few weeks time, CES 2024 is the place to be if you are interested in next-generation innovations.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

They say “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”- but not in this case. CES, which stands for the Consumer Electronics Show, first took place in 1967. In the 50+ years since, thousands of products have been announced, including many that have transformed the lives of people around the world.

In 2024 the show will run between January 9th and 12th, with press conferences set to start a day or two earlier. Over 100,000 people are expected to descend on the city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment and nightlife.

The 2.75 million-square-foot convention will host over 2,000 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware and content. This will be accompanied by a conference program featuring more than 1,000 speakers. We expect the 2024 event to be the largest since the pandemic.

Expect to see everything from self-driving technology and wireless to drones, to sleep technology, artificial intelligence and robotics. If you can imagine it, there is a good probability someone exhibiting at CES 2024 is already working on it. Most big wearable tech companies will be there. Apart from Apple, of course. They prefer to organize their own launch events.

Here’s is a selection of some of the tech that may see the light of day in early January.

Fitbit

Fitbit never fails to make a showing at CES. Unfortunately, last time around it didn’t have much to show. In fact, the only new wearable from the outfit in the past 12 months was Charge 6. Its owner Google has also released the Pixel Watch 2 in October.

One device that could realistically make a showing is Luxe 2. No leaks so far but the fitness band is nearly three years old now and CES 2024 would be a good launch platform for that one. If we don’t see it in January, expect for it to land in the Spring.

We did see a IMDA regulatory clearance back in September, and prior to that with the FCC. The accompanying paperwork hints that this could be Luxe 2 or Ace 4. It doesn’t mention either device by name, but the specs that are mentioned imply it could be one of these two.

There is always the possibility we may not get a hardware announcement at the next CES. It could always be the case that Fitbit uses the event to reveal news on the software front.

Garmin

Garmin is another wearable tech giant that is a regular at the gathering. But just like Fitbit, last year it didn’t make any big revelations. In fact, in the last two years we got more news from Garmin in the weeks immediately following CES. So don’t be surprised if we see a repeat of that in 2024.

The company has had a very busy year. A plethora of devices were released including the Forerunner 265, Forerunner 965, Venu 3, Vivoactive 5 and much more.

A couple of new wearables from Garmin might make a showing in the near future. This includes Lily 2 and HRM FIT. The first will be a new iteration of Garmin’s smartwatch for women. The second is a mystery heart rate monitor that may offer functionality not seen in other such devices in Garmin’s range. We’ve had leaks on both of these, as well as some regulatory and patent filings for HRM FIT.

Interestingly, Garmin recently snagged six Wearable Tech CES 2024 Innovation awards. The star performer was Venu 3.

Fossil

Fossil will also be at CES 2024, but don’t expect anything on the smartwatch front. Despite the fact that Gen 7 watches are long overdue. The word on the street is that the outfit is looking to leave the wearable space. It will sell stocks of the current range of devices, and that’s about it.

At CES 2023, we saw the unveiling of Fossil Gen 6 Hybrid Wellness Edition. It offers is a unique blend of traditional and modern watch features, sporting a 1.1-inch grayscale E Ink display. The device has classic physical watch hands layered above the screen. This design choice means the watch does not have an OLED display, and instead of wearOS, it operates on a proprietary system that is more efficient in conserving battery life.

We’re not hopeful we will see a new smartwatch from Fossil at CES in January. Having said that, the company has not confirmed or denied the above rumours. So it’s anyone’s guess as to the true state of things.

Withings

Withings is another regular at the event. And it always had something new to show in Las Vegas. We hope 2024 follows this trend.

Last year the news came in the form of Withings U-Scan. This gadget is designed to be placed in your toilet, where it analyzes the chemical makeup of urine and sends the data wirelessly to a mobile application. Comprising a reader and a changeable cartridge, it gathers health-related information from daily urine samples. The device is capable of differentiating between urine and toilet water, and it can identify individual users through its Stream ID technology. The accompanying app enables users to examine their health data and facilitates the sharing of this information with healthcare professionals and others.

Huami (Zepp Health)

We also expect Zepp Health to make a showing. No teasers or statements so far, and no hints as to what could arrive.

This is another company that has had a busy 2023. We saw a few new launches including Amazfit Balance, Edge and Edge Active, Cheetah range and more.

One possibility for an upcoming device is Amazfit T-Rex 3. There was an interim edition called Ultra which landed last spring, but it could very well be that we get the next geration in Q1 2024. So don’t be surprised if it makes an appearance in Las Vegas.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi will be there although we have no insight at the moment on any new wearables it might reveal. However, what is fairly certain is that we will get the global launch of Mi Smart Band 8 Pro in the weeks ahead. A plethora of regulatory filings for the device were made public in the last few weeks. So far, only the Chinese version has been available for sale. CES 2024 might make a great opportunity to publicise the global launch of the fitness band.

CES never disappoints so look forward to a surprise or two. Announcements over the next month will set the tone on what wearable tech we can expect for the entire 2024. We will be covering all the news that matters as and when it happens.

Samsung

Finally, we get to Samsung. On the wearable from the one device we are expecting in the near future is Fit3. Quote a few leaks on that one have dropped and regulatory filings. The upcoming gizmo is expected to pack a massive 1.61 inch display and 21 days of battery life.

Ahead of the event, the Samsung Health app garnered the Honoree Award in the Mobile Devices, Accessories & Apps category at the CES Innovation Awards. Additionally, the Galaxy Watch 6 Series was acclaimed for its stylish design, health monitoring, and connectivity, while the Galaxy Buds FE received praise in the Headphones & Personal Audio category for their sound quality, active noise cancellation, and ambient sound features.

The Wear OS 3.5 update for Fossil Gen 6 watches, initially encountering technical issues, is now successfully being installed by users.

Some devices are running on Wear OS 4, but others are still playing catchup. One of these are Fossil Gen 6 watches.

Four days ago, the Wear OS 3.5 update began its rollout to these devices. However, this highly anticipated software refresh encountered a rocky start. Users eagerly attempting to download and install the new software faced a frustrating hurdle: the update process was failing, even after attempting a complete reset of their devices. This issue was widespread enough to prompt a response from Fossil, who confirmed the glitch and temporarily halted the update to rectify the problem.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Some developers must have had a rough Thanksgiving because of this. However, things seem to be back on track now. Within the last 24 hours, users have started reporting successful installations of the Wear OS 3.5 update on their Fossil Gen 6 watches.

Key Features of Wear OS 3.5

Wear OS 3.5 first made its appearance in October 2022. This update was significant for Wear OS smartwatches, introducing a range of enhancements aimed at improving the overall user experience. The rollout for Fossil Gen 6 watches marks an extension of this update to a broader range of devices.

Performance improvements: One of the notable changes in Wear OS 3.5 is the improvement in app load times, which should now be up to 30% faster. Hopefully, users should notice a smoother experience.

Battery life optimization: The update also focuses on battery efficiency, extending the life of the watch between charges. This is crucial for users who utilize features like continuous heart rate monitoring or sleep tracking. A number of users who have installed the update have, indeed, reported better battery life. However, there are others with opposite experiences.

Interface redesign: The interface has been revamped to make navigation on the watch’s small screen more efficient. This includes more customizable Tiles (mini widgets) for the home screen carousel, gesture controls, and quick access to smart home controls in Google Home.

Fitness tracking enhancements: With the integration of Fitbit’s technology, the update brings some reworked fitness tracking features. This addition is a strategic move, considering the growing interest in health and fitness among smartwatch users.

Google services integration: The update includes revamped versions of essential Google apps and services, including the addition of Google Assistant.

Third-party app support: Google has made efforts to enhance the ecosystem of third-party apps for Wear OS, which is expected to result in a more diverse and robust app selection for users.

This is an early Christmas gift for Fossil Gen 6 owners. Of course, alongside these new features, Wear OS 3.5 maintains all the essential functions of the previous version. If you have a Fossil Gen 6 device, you may want to check whether the update has been made available in your region yet.

Owners of Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches will be delighted to learn that Google Assistant is back in the latest update. Following the transition to Wear OS 3, the feature had been noticeably absent from Fossil’s Gen 6 lineup. However, recent discussions on Reddit and a Twitter post, have revealed that the digital assistant has made a much wanted return.

Google Assistant is a highly versatile feature. It allows users to perform a variety of tasks such as setting reminders, sending texts, making calls, and even controlling smart home devices, all through simple voice commands. This hands-free control brings about an enhanced level of convenience and functionality for smartwatch users.

Google Assistant makes a comeback

This latest update is automatic and will roll out to all Gen 6 devices powered with Wear OS 3 that are paired with phones running the latest version of Android. Along with the smartwatch, there is another software refresh for the Fossil companion app, which users should update to v5.1.6 through the Google Play Store. This is a staged rollout so may take a while to reach all regions.

After updating the Fossil Smartwatches app, users will find a new “Default assistant” menu option in the My Preferences section. This allows customisation of the AI assistant features. So long as the Gen 6 Fossil watch has been updated, the app will allow you to select Google Assistant (if it’s not already selected) for use.

Here’s what Fossil had to say on the subject.

It’s not just the Fossil Smartwatches app that’s receiving good news. The Skagen Smartwatches app has also begun updating to reintroduce Google Assistant availability to its variant. This update also includes some “critical bug fixes” and brings the watches up to the May 2023 security patch. To remind, Skagen falls under the umbrella of the Fossil Group.

The lack of Google Assistant has been a common complaint among users of many Wear OS 3 smartwatches. Excluding, of course, the Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series which have had this ability since their respective launches.

“Our priority with Wear OS is to deliver a high performing platform for our partners and users, and we are taking the time to ensure our apps and services deliver a quality experience.” Google said last year in a statement to How-To-Geek when questioned about the missing Google Assistant.

“We have nothing more to share at this time”

This development could potentially signify a positive shift for users as they anticipate the release of Wear OS 4 later this year. The next version of the operating system is due to land in the months ahead.

Fossil has announced another smartwatch ahead of CES 2023. This one is a new take on its Wellness Edition. The hybrid version comes with an E Ink gray-scale display and long battery life.

The fully featured Gen 6 Wellness Edition was unveiled back in October. It was Fossil’s first watch to come with support from WearOS 3.0 out of the box. A number of other, older generation Fossil watches, have received the update since then.

Much better battery life

A problem of wearOS watches continues to be dismal battery life. The Wellness Hybrid Edition addresses this issue. It has excellent two-week battery life on a full charge. About an hour is enough to charge it from zero to around 80%.

The impressive battery life is largely due to the use of a low power consuming 1.1 inch E Ink gray-scale display with physical watch hands placed over the screen. Interestingly, the E-ink display has a built-in light so that it is visible in the day. But no OLED and wearOS has been repliced by a battery friendly proprietary operating system.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Other design features of the watch include a 44mm case size, a body made of stainless steel and three physical buttons (crown and two tactile push buttons) on the right. The hybrid is only 11.4mm thick making it a lightweight, unisex device. All of this is water-resistant down to 30 meters (3 ATM).

As far as fitness tracking, the hybrid packs the standard features including automatic workout detection, continuous heart rate tracking and a blood oxygen monitor. You also get VO2Max measurement and your heart rate zones will show on the screen during exercise courtesy of a new Wellness Gauge Dial.

There are also a few smartwatch features sprinkled in. These include support for phone notifications (calls, texts, third-party apps), music controls, and the Alexa voice assistant. The watch also lets you keep an eye out on real-time weather info and an alternate time zone. No built-in speaker, though, so you will need to rely on text notifications.

Fossil Gen 6 Hybrid Wellness Edition will be available for purchase just in time for CES 2023 on Thursday. It will cost $299 in three different case options on the company’s website. For an additional $30, you will be able to pretty it up with a choice of different coloured silicone straps.

A new update for the iOS Skagen smartphone application adds support for watches running on WearOS 3. The software is now starting to roll out on Android, as well.

Fossil has enabled a few of its watches to work with the latest version of Google’s operating system. The latest to join the club is the Diesel Gen 6 Griffed. All watches packing the Qualcomm 4100+ processor are eligible for the upgrade.

However, we are yet to see a Skagen timepiece with wearOS 3 compatibility. This is a problem as certain apps such as Komoot, Strava and Wikiloc do not appear on the Play Store any more. Google has dropped legacy support for them. Which means if you delete them from your device, you cannot re-install them from the Play Store.

wearOS 3 coming to Skagen watches

The wait for a Skagen watch with wearOS 3 might soon be over. So if you have a Falster Gen 6, you may be about to get the new version.

As first spotted on Reddit, an iOS update for the Skagen smartwatches app adds support for wearOS 3. Previously the app only supported hybrids.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Now we just need to wait for the watches to be updated to run the software. A user on Reddit has tried adding his Folster Gen 6 but with no luck. Until the watch gets the needed OS.3 firmware update it will not play nice with the app.

On the other hand, it could be the case the company is planning to release a new Skagen timepiece that runs on wearOS 3. CES 2023 is just around the corner. It represents a great launching pad for new devices.

Here’s the full change-log of software version 5.1.2. It started rolling out on iOS two days ago.

Manage your Skagen hybrid and touchscreen smartwatches in one place: the app now supports all Skagen smartwatches, including those powered by the latest Wear OS by Google TM.

Easier personalization

Customizing your touchscreen or hybrid smartwatch’s dial, tiles, and more is easier than ever with this streamlined app.

Easy-to-access assistance

With in-app FAQs, you can learn more about your watch at any time or quickly troubleshoot issues.

This is now starting to roll-out on Android, too. You can view it on APK mirror. The change-log is exactly the same as for the iOS app. Anything above Android 7.0 supports the software.

It is good that Skagen is making progress with their WearOS 3 companion app. There should be further news on this front soon.

Fossil has unveiled a couple of weeks ago a new WearOS 3.0 watch. It comes in the form of the Diesel Gen 6 Griffed. The timepiece availability for purchase starts from today.

You have to go back a while to find the last smartwatch that was released by the Fossil Group sub-brand Diesel. This was the Diesel on Fadelite back at CES 2020 which came in an interesting design. The straps of the watch are see-through with a choice of gradient colorways or a completely clear option. The body of the watch is partially translucent, too. That unisex device joined Full Guard and Axial as the company’s third smartwatch.

Now we got the fourth. The Diesel Griffed is a new design in the smartwatch lineup rather than a sequel to the previous offerings. Mind you, the company already has a not-so-clever Griffed range but these are traditional watches with zero underlying smarts.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Diesel Griffed is not a Gen 7 timepiece – if that’s what you were hoping for. Instead, once again, you have Gen 6 technology sitting under the hood.

This includes the 4100+ platform, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, built-in GPS, Bluetooth/WiFi and NFC for contactless payments through Google Wallet. The wellness features are unchanged from other Gen 6 timepieces but they’ve recently received a revamp in the accompanying smartphone app.

Like other Diesel watches, the device takes on a bright and cheerful look. On the right side is a crown above and below which function buttons can be found.

Fossil says, this is a “wearable for men and women that blends style, innovation, and technology seamlessly.” There are several interesting strap options as can be seen from images in this article. Of course, these are interchangeable so you can customise the device to your liking with a strap and watch-face of your choice.

Just like the Gen 6 Fossil Wellness edition, out of the box Diesel Griffed is capable of running WearOS 3.0. This should come as no surprise as a number of Fossil watches with the 4100+ have recently received this upgrade.

Also worthy of note is Amazon Alexa functionality. The smart assistant will either speak responses or show them on the display, all from your wrist! What’s more, users can make and receive calls right on the watch when Bluetooth is paired with your phone. And Spotify and YouTube Music allows users to control playback while online and offline.

Fossil has not mentioned battery life in the press release, but our guess is you won’t get much above a day. But at least you have the rapid changing function which lets you top-up quickly. It is said to be two times faster than on Gen 5.

The $350 Gen 6 Diesel Griffed is available on diesel.com and select Diesel stores starting starting from today. It comes in a number of bezel colourway options like silver/black, gunmetal/black and silver. You can also pick up the watch at a number of other retail outlets.

The obvious question is – when can we expect the first Gen 7 watch? Don’t get your hopes up. Taking into account comments recently made by a Fossil employee on Reddit, it seems the wait will continue for a while longer. Our best guess is, this could land in late spring or next summer.

Those with Google WearOS watches can finally add Amazon Music to the list of streaming services they can use from the wrist.

Amazon Music is one of the largest global audio libraries. It comes with unlimited access to over 100 million songs and thousands of playlists and stations. If you’re not already a member, the subscription will set you back $9.99 per month. The first month is free and if you don’t like it simply cancel before the 30 days are up and you won’t be charged. Amazon Prime Members get access for free.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Amazon Music has been available on select Garmin smartwatches since 2019, but it is only now that it is coming to WearOS. This means users of one of the most popular smartwatch operating systems can now gain access to the service.

Amazon Music joins Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Music, NavMusic and Shazam. Some of these have been available on WearOS watches for quite a while now.

If you check on Google Play, you’ll notice that images have been added from the Watch app. You can see some of them pictured in this article.

The list of WearOS features is as follows;

Access your favourite music, right from your wrist;

Play top recommendations, songs from your library, or search for your favourite artists, albums, playlists and more;

Use your watch to cast to and control playback on compatible Android devices.

There doesn’t appear to be functionality that allows for offline listening. At least, it is not mentioned in the description and there’s nothing in the screenshots that suggest there is. To remind, on Garmin watches you are able to listen to streaming content as well as download songs as long as you have an active subscription to Amazon Music.

The Amazon Music app for wearOS features goes under version number 22.15.0. It is around 64.3MB in size. The description states that it “requires WearOS” but it doesn’t state which version. So it is not clear at this stage whether it works both on WearOS 2.0 and 3.0 watches. Hopefully all WearOS devices will gain access.

The app doesn’t seem to be downloadable at the moment. However, the APK is available on the apkmirror website.

The Amazon Music app on Google play has pretty poor reviews. Hopefully the WearOS functionality will get a better reception!
