Huawei has now officially launched the Watch Fit 5 and Watch Fit 5 Pro in China, confirming the display sizes, brightness levels and pricing after last week’s early leak. The standard model starts at CNY 1,099 while the Pro version jumps to CNY 2,099, bringing sapphire glass, ECG and free diving support for the higher asking price.

That gives us a much clearer picture of where Huawei is positioning these watches. The regular version stays in familiar fitness tracker territory, while the Pro pushes much closer to the premium sports watch category with upgrades that go beyond just looks.

The standard model keeps things simple

The Huawei Watch Fit 5 comes with a 1.82-inch AMOLED display that reaches up to 2,500 nits of brightness. It uses an aluminium alloy case, measures 9.5mm thick and weighs around 27 grams, so Huawei is clearly keeping the focus on a slim and lightweight design.

This is the more accessible option in the lineup, with pricing between CNY 1,099 and CNY 1,199 depending on the version. That works out to roughly $160 to $175, which keeps it in the same conversation as other upper-mid-range fitness watches rather than full smartwatch flagships.

The overall design does not move too far away from previous Watch Fit models. It is still very much a rectangular watch built for people who want a bigger screen than a band can offer, without stepping into the bulk of a full outdoor watch.

Huawei also says the watch brings improved heart rate accuracy and a new micro-stretching feature, which appears to be aimed at nudging users into short movement sessions during the day rather than only focusing on formal workouts.

The Pro model is where things get more interesting

The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro gets the bigger 1.92-inch AMOLED display. It also adds sapphire glass and a titanium alloy bezel, which gives it a noticeably more premium hardware setup than the standard version.

This is also where the health and sports features start to separate more clearly. The Pro includes ECG monitoring and support for diving up to 40 metres, which makes it much more than just a prettier version of the same watch.

Huawei is pricing this model between CNY 2,099 and CNY 2,199, or roughly $308 to $323. That puts it in a very different bracket, and it suggests Huawei sees this as a competitor for buyers looking at higher-end Garmin, Amazfit and Apple Watch alternatives rather than basic fitness trackers.

One important detail is that the official launch confirms the Pro brightness at 3,000 nits, not the 3,500 nits suggested by earlier leaks. It is a small correction, but it shows why launch-day confirmation still matters even when most of the hardware has already leaked.

More than just another yearly refresh

What stands out here is that Huawei did not simply add a few cosmetic upgrades and call it a day. The Watch Fit 5 Pro feels like a deliberate attempt to create more distance between the standard and premium models.

Features like sapphire glass, titanium accents, ECG and diving support push it beyond the usual “Pro” naming exercise. It starts to look less like a fitness watch with extras and more like a lighter sports watch for people who do not want something as large as a Huawei Watch GT or Watch Ultimate.

That also makes the contrast with the Watch Ultimate Design Diamond Edition more interesting. One device leans toward luxury and statement styling, while the Watch Fit 5 Pro focuses more on practical sports features with premium materials added on top.

Huawei says sales in China begin on April 29. European pricing has not been fully confirmed yet, but earlier expectations of around €199 for the standard version and €299 for the Pro still look realistic based on where the China pricing has landed.

Huawei has officially launched the Watch Buds 2, bringing back one of the most unusual smartwatch designs on the market. The new model stores a pair of wireless earbuds inside the watch itself, adds a more premium titanium build and arrives alongside the new Watch Ultimate Design Diamond Edition.

It has been around three years since the first Huawei Watch Buds appeared, and the concept still stands out. Instead of carrying a separate charging case, the smartwatch doubles as one. Open the display and the earbuds are sitting inside, charging and ready to go.

The hidden earbuds concept returns

The core design remains the same. The circular watch face lifts upward to reveal two built-in true wireless earbuds stored inside the watch body. They attach magnetically and charge while docked, turning the watch into both wearable and earbud case.

The earbuds keep Huawei’s compact cylindrical shape and continue with the interchangeable design from the original model. There is no fixed left or right earbud. They automatically recognise which ear they are placed in and switch audio channels accordingly.

Huawei has refined the outer design with a cleaner case shape and a more premium finish. One of the most obvious visual changes is the rotating crown, which now features a red accent ring. The textured release button near the lower part of the case is still there, used to open the top section.

The company is offering multiple finishes, including titanium alloy versions with leather and metal strap options. Promotional images show a brown leather strap with visible stitching, giving the device a much more polished look than the first generation.

As before, the biggest compromise is battery space. Since the watch has to make room for the earbuds inside, there is less internal space available for a larger battery compared to a standard smartwatch.

Better charging and connectivity expected

Huawei says the new model improves connection stability and audio performance, while also refining the charging experience. Faster wireless charging is expected to be part of the upgrade, which matters more here than on a regular smartwatch because the system is powering both the watch and the earbuds.

The original Watch Buds already included over 80 sports modes, health tracking features and AI noise cancellation for calls. Watch Buds 2 builds on that same formula rather than changing direction.

The first-generation version launched at 2,988 yuan, which works out to roughly $435 at current exchange rates, and Huawei is positioning this new model as a premium product rather than a mass-market fitness watch. International availability has not yet been fully detailed, so it remains to be seen whether it will get a wider global release.

Watch Ultimate gets the diamond treatment

Huawei also used the launch event to unveil the Watch Ultimate Design Diamond Edition. This one sits at the opposite end of the smartwatch spectrum.

The version takes the already high-end Watch Ultimate and adds diamond-set details along with a much more jewellery-focused presentation. It is clearly aimed at buyers looking for a luxury statement watch rather than a rugged sports device.

This luxury version comes with an equally premium price tag. In China, the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design Diamond Edition starts at 23,999 yuan, which works out to roughly $3,500 at current exchange rates and places it far beyond the usual smartwatch category and firmly into luxury watch territory.

That makes for an interesting contrast. Watch Buds 2 focuses on convenience and practicality by combining two devices into one. The Watch Ultimate Design Diamond Edition goes in the other direction, pushing materials and presentation as far as possible.

Huawei’s next fitness watches look close to launch. The standard model is tipped to come with a 1.82-inch AMOLED display and a €199 price tag, while the Pro version steps up to a larger LTPO OLED screen, sapphire glass, titanium accents and a higher €299 starting price.

This actually looks like a fairly substantial update, particularly on the Pro side, where Huawei seems to be pushing harder into premium sports-watch territory rather than just a basic fitness tracker.

Display gets a notable upgrade

The design language remains very much in line with previous Watch Fit devices. Which means you are getting the familiar rectangular form factor that has long drawn comparisons with Apple’s smartwatch design.

According to WinFuture, the regular Watch Fit 5 features a 1.82-inch AMOLED panel with 480 x 408 resolution and brightness of up to 2500 nits. That is already a strong number for outdoor visibility and should make the screen easier to read during runs, gym sessions and bright summer days.

The bigger story is the Pro version. This model reportedly uses a 1.92-inch LTPO OLED panel with the same resolution but a peak brightness of up to 3500 nits. If accurate, that would put it among the brighter displays currently available in the fitness watch segment. The use of LTPO should also help with power efficiency, particularly for always-on display use.

Huawei is also said to be upgrading the materials. The regular model uses reinforced glass, while the Pro moves to sapphire crystal, which is a welcome addition at this price point.

Same battery, familiar endurance

Both watches are expected to pack a 471mAh battery. Huawei’s claimed figures suggest up to 10 days of maximum use, around 7 days under typical conditions and roughly 4 days with always-on display enabled.

Those numbers are very much in line with what users now expect from Huawei’s fitness-focused wearables. Battery life has consistently been one of the stronger points of the company’s watches, and it looks like that remains the case here.

Connectivity is also said to include Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and built-in GPS across both models, which keeps the essentials in place for contactless payments and phone-free outdoor workout tracking.

Pro model leans harder into sports and health

Both models are expected to ship with Huawei’s TruSense platform and the usual set of sensors including heart rate, temperature, barometer, accelerometer and magnetometer.

The Pro version, however, reportedly adds ECG support and a dedicated depth sensor for diving. It is also tipped to support free diving up to 40 metres, which gives it a more serious sports angle than the regular version.

Offline colour maps are also expected, along with automatic workout detection and a broad set of sport modes. For many users, that combination may make the Pro a more attractive alternative to some higher-priced multisport watches, particularly if Huawei keeps its usual strong battery performance.

At 27.5 grams for the standard model and 31.6 grams for the Pro, both should remain light enough for all-day wear and sleep tracking.

Taken together, this looks like Huawei is not just doing a routine annual update. The standard Watch Fit 5 appears to refine what already works, while the Pro seems to push the line further into premium fitness watch territory with better materials, diving support and ECG. If the leaked pricing holds, the €100 gap between the two models could make the choice fairly straightforward depending on whether those extra hardware features matter to the buyer.

Huawei could be getting ready to refresh its Watch Fit lineup soon, with a new leak pointing to an April 2026 launch for the Watch Fit 5 series. The tipster behind the claim is FixedFocus, a Weibo-based source with a track record in Huawei leaks.

If the timing checks out, the Watch Fit 5 would arrive roughly about a year after the previous iteration. The Watch Fit 4 series debuted in May 2025, so an April window would represent only a slight shift in Huawei’s release cadence.

A third model joins the lineup

The bigger story here is what the Watch Fit 5 range is said to include. Huawei is, reportedly, planning three versions this time around, a standard model, a Pro and a new Ultra variant. That last one is worth paying attention to, because the Watch Fit line has only ever shipped with two tiers.

What the Ultra would actually bring to the table is not yet clear. No specific hardware details or feature differences have surfaced, but the name alone suggests Huawei is aiming higher than the Pro in at least some respects. Whether that means a more rugged build, expanded sports tracking, additional health sensors or something else entirely is still anyone’s guess.

Source: Weibo

What the current generation looks like

To put the Watch Fit 5 in context, it helps to know where things stand with the Fit 4 series. The standard Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro launched with a shared 1.82-inch AMOLED display, dual-band GNSS and a barometer, features that were absent from the Fit 3. The Pro went further still, adding ECG, temperature sensing, the TruSense health platform, offline route navigation, dive tracking to 40 metres and a full golf mode with 15,000 course maps. All things considered, a nice step up from the previous generation.

If Huawei follows a similar upgrade path with the Fit 5 series, and adds a genuine Ultra tier on top, the range could end up covering considerably more ground than it does today.

More Huawei hardware reportedly on the way

The Watch Fit 5 is not said to be arriving alone. A broader Huawei product event is expected that could also include the Pura 90 smartphone series, AI smart glasses, the Watch Buds 2, HarmonyOS PCs and two new MatePad tablets. That would make for a fairly substantial launch window if even half of it materialises.

As always with leaks of this kind, treat the details with caution. None of this has been confirmed by Huawei, and specifics around the Watch Fit 5 are still thin on the ground. More information should emerge as any potential launch date gets closer. Last year we had some regulatory agency leaks, nothing yet has surfaced along these lines in 2026.

Watch GT Runner 2 is the latest timepiece from Huawei. The new model pairs a lighter titanium based case with ECG support, dual band GPS and a quoted 32 hours of GPS battery life.

The positioning is clear. Huawei wants this to sit at the top of its running focused lineup rather than as a general purpose smartwatch with a few sports modes added on.

Design and materials point to a lighter build

The Watch GT Runner 2 packs a round 1.32 AMOLED display and keeps the two button layout on the right side. The casing is slimmer (10.7mm) than the 2021 edition and partly made from titanium, which means Huawei has tried to reduce weight (43.5 grams) without giving up stiffness or durability.

The new device has a clean shape, with few angular elements around the bezel. Colour accents appear subtle, with blue and orange options breaking up the otherwise neutral look. Standard strap compatibility remains, which matters for runners who already have preferred bands.

Huawei is also introducing what it calls AirDry straps. The idea is simple. Raised threads reduce the amount of fabric in constant contact with skin, while small gaps improve airflow. For long runs or races, that focus on moisture and comfort makes practical sense rather than being a cosmetic change.

Health tracking expands beyond basic running metrics

An important addition is ECG support – which is something we don’t often see on a runners timepiece. This feature previously appeared on the Watch D2, and its inclusion here signals Huawei’s intent to blur the line between sports watch and health monitoring device.

Heart rate variability tracking is also mentioned, which fits with a more training focused narrative. HRV data can support recovery analysis when used carefully, though its value depends heavily on consistency and context rather than single readings.

SpO2 monitoring and continuous heart rate tracking round out the sensor set. Nothing here feels experimental, but the combination suggests Huawei is aiming for a broader physiological picture rather than just pace and distance.

The watch includes an onboard speaker for hands free calls along with an NFC antenna for mobile payments.

A runners watch with excellent battery life

Huawei is leaning heavily into a new Intelligent Marathon Mode. It is described as a trainer on the wrist that supports preparation before race day and guidance during the run itself.

This includes pacing support, workload management and post run feedback. This aligns with Huawei bringing Eliud Kipchoge on board as the public face of the launch, reinforcing credibility with serious runners rather than casual users.

Dual band GPS is now part of the package, with Huawei claiming improved route accuracy thanks to a new 3D floating antenna. In fact the antenna is said to have 3.5x better performance compared to its predecessor. The updated antenna works alongside a new inertial positioning algorithm that uses accelerometer and gyroscope data to keep route tracking more accurate when GPS drops out, such as in tunnels and underpasses.

The 540mAh Si-C battery claims sit at up to 14 days in standard use and up to 32 hours with GPS active. If those figures hold up in real world use, the Runner 2 should comfortably cover marathon training blocks and race day without anxiety over charging.

These numbers also reinforce the idea that this watch prioritises endurance over app heavy smartwatch features.

Regional availability

Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 is set to be introduced on February 26, 2026. In the UK the price is £350 (check latest pricing and availability on Huawei’s website). The colour choice is between Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black.

All in all, this looks less like a cosmetic refresh and more like a tightening of focus. Huawei appears to be refining what a dedicated running watch should offer, with comfort, battery life and core training tools taking priority over broad smartwatch ambitions.

February 26 is locked in for the Watch GT Runner 2 launch, and Huawei has started warming things up with a bunch of short teaser videos. The clips all lean in the same direction, marathon training, deeper performance stats and a watch that feels properly built for running. A special, Racing Edition variant of the device is also expected.

From what Huawei is saying so far, these are meant to be straight follow ups to the original Runner. The focus looks to be on structured training and long distance prep, something that can compete with the likes of the Garmin Forerunner.

Teasers point to intelligent marathon mode

The company has released several teaser clips across social channels in recent days, each highlighting a different part of the watch’s running focus. The most specific feature mentioned so far is an intelligent marathon mode.

Huawei describes this as a training focused tool designed to help runners prepare more effectively for long distance events. While technical details remain limited, the language suggests a system that adapts training guidance based on performance data rather than static plans. The emphasis is on preparation rather than race day tracking alone, which fits with Huawei’s recent push toward coaching style features inside Huawei Health.

The teasers also continue Huawei’s habit of linking product development to elite sport. The company has already confirmed that Watch GT Runner 2 was developed with input from marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge and his team, reinforcing the idea that this watch is aimed at runners who train with intent rather than casually logging miles.

Racing Legend edition aimed at serious runners

Alongside the standard model, Huawei is expected to introduce a Racing Legend special edition. This version has been mentioned in leaks and will probably be part of the February 26 announcement.

The Racing Legend edition is described as being designed with professional input for dedicated runners. Leaks point toward a more specialised and durable design, potentially positioning it closer to high end running watches. The idea appears to be a model that looks and feels more technical, without drifting into full outdoor watch territory.

One of the more unusual leak details is the suggestion of up to 22 strap variants associated with this edition. If accurate, that would give runners a wide range of fit and material options, possibly tuned for racing, training and daily wear.

What to expect from the hardware and positioning

Not that much is known about specifications, so any discussion of hardware remains cautious. Based on the original Watch GT Runner and Huawei’s current wearable platform, expectations include multi band GNSS, advanced heart rate tracking and strong battery life.

What matters more is positioning. The Watch GT Runner 2 is shaping up as a professional leaning running watch rather than a general GT model with added sports features. The Racing Legend edition in particular suggests Huawei wants to be taken seriously by runners who currently default to Garmin or similar brands.

Pricing and regional availability also remain unknown. Those details, along with full specs and software breakdowns, are expected to be confirmed in a few days time

Huawei finally pulled the curtain back on the Band 11 and its more capable sibling, the Band 11 Pro. These trackers refine the formula we have seen in previous years, focusing on better screens and smarter internal sensors.

A familiar look with better materials

The new series keeps the tall and narrow look that defines modern fitness trackers, but the Pro model feels a bit more substantial. It uses an aluminium alloy case that gives it a more refined touch compared to the standard model. You can get the Pro in green, blue, or black. Also noticeable is that the Pro version adapts a new look with curved edges. The basic version continues the design language of the previous model.

The standard Band 11 offers a few more options, including beige, white, and purple, though some of those versions swap the metal for a durable polymer.

Both devices feature a 1.62 inch AMOLED screen. So no difference there. The resolution is sharp at 286 by 482 pixels, which results in a pixel density of 347 PPI. This is high enough that you will not see individual pixels while checking your heart rate or reading a text notification. Huawei says it has also improved the brightness for outdoor use.

Huawei has managed to keep these devices very light, with the Pro weighing 18 grams and the standard version coming in at 16 or 17 grams depending on the materials.

The big difference is inside

While they look nearly identical on your wrist, the internals set them apart. The Band 11 Pro includes built in GPS. This is the main reason to spend the extra money if you run or cycle outdoors. You can leave your phone at home and still get an accurate map of your route and pace. The standard Band 11 lacks this hardware, so it has to piggyback off your phone’s GPS to track your location.

Beyond the GPS, both trackers share a deep set of sensors. They use a 9 axis IMU that combines an accelerometer, gyroscope, along with a magnetometer. They also feature the usual optical heart rate sensor and an ambient light sensor. You get the full suite of Huawei health tracking, including blood oxygen levels, sleep monitoring, and stress tracking. They even include emotion tracking now, which tries to gauge your mood based on physiological data throughout the day.

Living with the battery life

Battery performance of the 300mAh is identical across both models. On a light usage profile, you can stretch these out to 14 days. If you use them like a normal person, with notifications on and occasional workouts, expect about eight days. If you love the always on display and want every sensor running constantly, that number drops to about three days. Switch on the GPS on the Pro and it will come down further.

Charging is still handled by a magnetic cable that snaps onto the back. It is a quick and reliable system that has worked well for Huawei in the past. Both bands are rated at 5 ATM for water resistance. Pretty much the standard these days.

Our takeaway

If you are a runner or someone who spends a lot of time tracking outdoor movements without a phone, the Pro is the obvious choice. The aluminium build also makes it feel more like a piece of jewelry than a plastic toy. For everyone else who just wants a reliable step counter and notification hub, the standard Band 11 does the exact same job for a more accessible price.

Right now the devices are only available in certain regions. The standard Band 11 is entering the market at approximately €50. If you want the Pro model with its GPS and metal housing, you are looking at roughly €70. These prices place the Band 11 series right in the middle of the budget wearable market, offering high end display technology without the high end smartwatch price tag.

Huawei is moving closer to a full smartwatch experience with the upcoming Band 11 Pro. It adds integrated GPS and a 1.62 inch high brightness display to a very slim frame. These leaks suggest a device designed for people who want a solid alternative to bulky sports watches. An official launch is expected in early March.

Improved visibility for outdoor training

Huawei is clearly focusing on the screen this year. The new 1.62 inch AMOLED panel is a significant step up from what we usually see in this price bracket. The resolution sits at 482 by 286 pixels. This keeps the vertical interface looking sharp even with several data fields on the screen.

One of the most interesting specs is the 2000 nits peak brightness. If those numbers hold up in real world use, you can actually read your heart rate while running under direct sunlight. Most budget trackers wash out completely in those conditions.

The casing uses an aluminum alloy. This keeps the weight at 14 grams without the strap. It should feel almost non existent on the wrist.

Integrated GPS changes the training dynamic

The addition of built in GPS is the most practical upgrade in this new generation. Previously you had to rely on a connected phone to map your route. That is always a hassle if you prefer running in lightweight gear. Now the tracker handles the location data directly from the wrist.

It includes the standard suite of sensors like a heart rate monitor and SpO2 sensor. It also features a magnetometer for orientation. While it is not a dedicated diving tool, the 50 meter water resistance and IP67 rating are great.

Battery performance and smart connectivity

A 300 mAh battery powers the device. Huawei claims it will last about 10 days under typical usage. You might stretch that to 14 days if you use the power saving modes. However, that likely disables the frequent heart rate checks.

It manages smart tasks like showing notifications. You can also send quick replies to text messages from compatible phones. You can even answer calls directly from the wrist if your phone is within Bluetooth range.

All the health data syncs through the Huawei Health app. This remains one of the more polished platforms for looking at stress levels or guided breathing exercises. The app is where the first images of this device actually surfaced. This second leak comes from WinFuture.

What about the standard Band 11?

Huawei is also preparing a standard Band 11. It uses largely the same internal platform but drops to a smaller 180 mAh battery and skips some of the Pro positioning. The two models will likely sit side by side rather than replacing each other.

Huawei is expected to release the Band 11 Pro in early March, with pricing likely to land between 50 and 70 euros in Europe depending on the version. At that level, GPS becomes the key differentiator, especially in a segment that usually reserves it for more expensive wearables.

Huawei’s Band 11 Pro has popped up early in the company’s own apps, giving us a first look before anything official. It’s already showing up in the Huawei Smart Life app, and tapping the listing takes you straight into the Health app setup flow.

Huawei reveals its next fitness band by accident

This kind of leak isn’t new for Huawei, but it’s telling. The company has not yet officially announced the Band 11 Pro, but its presence across two of its own apps, Smart Life and the HarmonyOS version of Huawei Health, makes it clear that launch is close. The listing includes a couple of product images that show what looks like a production-ready unit, not a placeholder.

The Band 11 Pro seems to be a continuation of Huawei’s slim rectangular tracker line. The design has been refined slightly, with curved edges along the frame and evenly sized bezels on all four sides of the display. The screen itself remains flat, but the left and right borders appear slightly rounded to match the curvature of the case. A single side button flush against the case is visible and is likely used for wake and navigation shortcuts.

Band 11 Pro adds new straps and polish

From the images, Huawei appears to be planning at least two strap styles for this release. One is a familiar soft silicone option, while the other uses a braided nylon loop with a more premium look. These interchangeable bands suggest that Huawei wants to position the Pro version with broader appeal, perhaps as a blend of sport and lifestyle use.

The case seems to have a brushed or matte metallic finish, which is a step up from the Band 10. Branding is consistent with other Huawei wearables, and there’s a visible effort to align with the more polished look of the Watch Fit series.

What Pro might actually mean this time

Huawei hasn’t offered a Pro version in this series since the Band 6 Pro. That model added a temperature sensor and some basic body temp tracking features. Whether the Band 11 Pro brings something similar is unclear for now, as the listing includes only visuals, not spec sheets or feature breakdowns.

The Band 10 already covered a lot of ground: Always On Display, watch face customisation, HRV-based sleep tracking, and hundreds of supported sports modes. Any Pro distinction will likely come from either new health sensors or additional smart features. A more robust health algorithm or improved display tech are possibilities, but there’s nothing to confirm yet.

Huawei usually refreshes its fitness band lineup annually, and the Band 10 launched in March last year. If that schedule holds, the Band 11 Pro may become official in the coming weeks alongside the non-pro variant.

Huawei is rolling out a new wellness feature to its smartwatches that tracks changes in blood vessel signals to assess diabetes risk. While Garmin is exploring HbA1c estimation through light-based spectroscopy, Huawei is taking a different route using PPG trends, with the feature now live on the GT 6 Pro following its debut at the 2026 World Health Expo in Dubai.

Huawei’s latest smartwatch update aims to offer early warning signs of diabetes risk, using optical heart rate sensors and a new app. Rather than attempting direct blood sugar measurements, it focuses on vascular and nerve signal patterns linked to long-term glucose problems.

The company is positioning the new feature in the wellness camp. Needless to say, this is not a diagnostic tool, nor is it being framed as a replacement for lab tests. Instead, the Diabetes Risk app is pitched as a prompt for further evaluation. If you land in the Medium or High category, Huawei recommends speaking with a doctor.

The core of the approach relies on PPG, the same tech used to track heart rate. Huawei’s system looks for long-term changes in those signals. Specifically, it’s tracking variations that could point to diabetes-related microvascular or neuropathic effects. These may develop silently over time and subtly affect how light is absorbed or reflected under the skin.

Huawei also leans on some scientific context here. At the Dubai launch, the company referenced studies suggesting shared genetic factors between resting heart rate and diabetes, along with vascular and nerve damage altering PPG waveforms. The idea is that these slow shifts in signal pattern, captured during daily wear, might be enough to flag emerging issues.

This is a passive feature. You wear the watch as usual, and over the course of three to 14 days, it collects enough data to assess your risk. The app then categorises results into Low, Medium or High, with only the latter two triggering a suggestion to seek medical input. The company makes clear it isn’t diagnosing anything.

The rollout starts with the Huawei GT 6 Pro. An over-the-air update activates the functionality. More models are expected to get support, though no full timeline has been confirmed yet. Users don’t need to trigger anything manually once the update is installed. Just wearing the device is enough for the system to start logging.

Professor Jiguang Wang, Director of the Shanghai Institute of Hypertension, joined Huawei on stage for the unveiling. He has worked with the brand before, including on the WATCH D series with its inflatable wrist-cuff for blood pressure readings. At the event, he spoke about the growing potential of PPG-based insights for population health, especially in early detection.

Garmin has something different in mind

It’s worth noting how this differs from what Garmin has proposed. Garmin’s recent patent goes after HbA1c estimation, a long-term blood glucose marker typically requiring a lab test. That system uses multi-wavelength light sensors and spectral analysis to derive estimated values over time. Huawei, by contrast, isn’t trying to quantify anything directly. It’s spotting trends that might correlate with risk, not estimating specific blood sugar markers.

For now, Huawei’s feature avoids regulatory complications by focusing on general wellness. It may also sidestep the accuracy and reliability hurdles that come with trying to deliver clinical-grade data. But as sensor quality improves and algorithms mature, the line between wellness and diagnostic tech is becoming harder to draw.
