The original photos were released into the wild by Evan Blass. He is a journalist who has a good track record when it comes to posting leaks and images of upcoming devices.
This was our first glimpse at the next iteration of Versa.
As can be seen from the images, just like Versa Lite, the watch comes with only one physical button on the left. The two physical buttons on the right have not made the cut again, and it seems Fitbit has decided to ditch them completely.
Other than that, we get the same square-ish display although it may be more high-res than previously. Coupled with this are slim bezels and an aerospace grade aluminium casing. The back panel has also received a revamp and now had a larger area of black glass housing the updated ‘PurePulse’ heart rate sensor.
What we know so far is that Versa 2 will come with better activity (18+ exercise modes) & sleep features, 24/7 Heart Rate support, water-resistance down to 50 meters, storage for 300+ songs and support for Fitbit Pay. Battery life is still around 4 days.
It has also been revealed the upcoming smartwatch will have Alexa support. This means Versa 2 is coming with a microphone, a first for a Fitbit. You will be able to ask the watch for weather reports in your area, it will provide you with smart home control and more.
The San Francisco outfit released a number of devices so far this year. This includes the Fitbit Versa Lite Edition, Fitbit Inspire HR, Fitbit Inspire and Fitbit Ace 2. The additions help to consolidate its wearables range, although they do not offer anything revolutionary. This fact is perhaps best reflected in the company’s disappointing 2nd quarter earnings.
IFA 2019 is just around the corner and we were wondering if Fitbit will launch any new devices. They’ve been a regular at Europe’s tech gathering in recent years and always had something new to show off.
The latest info indicates that September 15 is the release date, and the company will officially announce Versa 2 on August 25th. This means we are likely to see it at the Berlin show in a couple of weeks time.
