Fossil is preparing to release a bunch of LTE enabled Gen 5 smartwatches. This is according to a banner ad that was posted on their website.
This is important news as the company has a huge selection of Wear OS watches – the biggest of any brand. What’s more, it has a number of sub-brands including Puma, Emporio Armani, Michael Kors, DKNY, Diesel, Kate Spade New York, Tory Burch, Chaps and Armani Exchange. It’s very likely the connectivity will trickle down to them in time.
The banner points to the home page of the website rather than a specific product page. Its url hints that this is a US awareness campaign for LTE watches (campaign=us_awar_TFRL_20_5LTE). It’s unclear what the letters TFRL stand for.
Those who are waiting for a Fossil Watch with the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 chip will need to exercise some more patience. The banner says the watches are still Gen 5 which means it is pretty much certain they will pack the old 3100 processor. It also supports LTE connectivity.
Fossil started selling Gen 5 watches back in August 2019. It now looks increasingly likely we won’t see their first Gen 6 watch until 2021. It is possible the situation with the coronavirus has shifted things around this year.
These new watches look only to be a LTE upgrade, nothing more. One could always speculate the fashion designer and manufacturer wants to shift stocks and hardware parts before moving to the next generation.

Earlier this month we saw seven new watches added to Fossil’s website. They are all part of a lineup it refers to as Gen 5E. One way to sum them up is that they pack Gen 5 specs in a Gen 2 and 3 design.
