WeBandz announces one of the smallest and simplest trackers for kids, pets and parents

We have written extensively before about wearable technology to keep your little ones safe. There are many devices on the market today, and they come in a wide variety of designs and forms. The most sophisticated ones use a GPS system to pinpoint exactly on your smartphone map the location of your child.

Now, a Miami startup called WeBandz, has announced the release of its own GPS tracking range of wearables for “kids, pets and parents”. These trackers are one of the first to use Qualcomm Technologies new Snapdraggon processor.

“We are very excited to introduce one of the smallest and simplest tracking devices to the market,” said Ryan Shapiro, founder of WeBandz.

“Many tracking devices available now are bulky or interfere with a child’s daily activities. We wanted to design a product that is so compact and lightweight that a child or pet will not mind wearing it all day, and that’s exactly what we are delivering today.”

WeBandz trackers are equipped with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 1100 processor and CSR102x Bluetooth® Smart 4.2. Being small in size, the devices can be attached to a child’s bracelet, a dog’s collar, and a dongle on a backpack.

To recap, Qualcomm announced a new Snapdragon processor at Computex, a computer expo currently under way in Taipei, Taiwan. The new processor is intended for use in simple “targeted-function” devices with less functionality such as fitness trackers, smart headsets, and GPS trackers. Rather than bringing more computing power to wearable devices, the new Qualcomm processor is aiming for efficiency.

“The innovation and enthusiasm level in the wearables space is palpable,” said Pankaj Kedia, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Atheros, Inc.

“We are delighted that WeBandz has chosen the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1100 for its flagship tracking device. This processor is designed specifically for targeted-purpose wearables and brings a simple, scalable, and seamlessly connected experience based on our next generation Cat 1 LTE/3G modem.”

Aside from the compact size, WeBandz devices also have a long battery life that is expected to last for days. You cannot order the devices just yet, but can register on the WeBandz website to get notified when the new trackers go on sale.

  • Can you please make these water submersible. I am trying to find a GPS tracker my kids can wear swimming. We spend a lot of time at the water park and I need a tracker they can swim in just in case they wonder to far off.
