CES 2017: Misfit debuts its first real smartwatch
California-based Misfit has announced Misfit Vapor, its first touchscreen smartwatch with heart rate and GPS built-in.
The company has been around since 2011, but has in this short time become one of the leading wearables brands with its line of sleek and inexpensive devices. Its known for activity trackers that feature zero cables, elegant designs, and no need to recharge.
When it came to its new smartwatch though, Misfit decided to ditch simplicity in favor of a digital touchscreen and many other smartphone features.
Tucked behind a sleek and vibrant 1.39-inch circular AMOLED screen is an accelerometer, altimeter, gyroscope, optical heart rate sensor, GPS, and microphone. Although the display is full touch, rather cleverly Misfit has introduced a virtual bezel that allows for quick navigation.
You will get music and GPS straight to your wrist – no phone required. Built-in location services will track your runs and activities while the optical heart rate sensor will monitor your ticker. The 44mm watch is also water resistant down to 50 meters and the company is promising two full days of life on a single charge.
“Misfit Vapor opens the next chapter of even more customizable options for our users. Touchscreen smartwatches offer an almost infinitely versatile platform on which to build new experiences, products, and services,” said Preston Moxcey, General Manager of Misfit.
The future of wearables will grow out of both truly wearable hardware and advanced software that is tailored to create a compelling, personalized user experience. Vapor takes us one step closer to achieving that vision.”
In terms of design, Vapor features a satin-finish upper casing, a hand-polished stainless steel caseback and interchangeable straps so you can easily customize it to fit your style or mood. Misfit says the device was created with fashion in mind.
Vapor is due for release by the end of this year, and will retail for $199. You will get to choose between a Jet Black and Rose Gold finish, both with matching bands.
