EyeQue: affordable and convenient personal smartphone eye test
Having regular eye exams is important regardless of your age or physical health. Whether or not you wear glasses today, your eyesight may have changed since your eyes were last checked. In addition to checking your sight, your eye doctor will also look for early signs of common eye diseases, many of which can be treated if found early enough.
The EyeQue Personal Vision Tracker is the first home-based solution to check your vision and keep track of it over time. Winner of the CES 2017 Best of Innovation award in the Fitness, Sports and Biotech category, this little gadget makes vision assessment possible anywhere, anytime.
Behind this high tech screening vision tool, is a cloud-based technology platform, a smartphone application, and a miniature optical scope. They combine to form a low-cost, precise option that enables people to test their vision by screening for refractive error, distance vision (nearsightedness, farsightedness) and astigmatism. Your vision record is returned with spherical, cylindrical and axis figures, the same values your eye doctor uses to generate a prescription.
The records are all stored in the cloud and accessible from your smartphone or web based EyeQue dashboard. You can see how your vision has changed over time and share results with your doctor. Also, after a few rounds of measurements you will receive a set of “EyeGlass Numbers” which can be used to purchase glasses online or in a store.
The campaign to develop EyeQue successfully closed earlier this month having raised nearly $150,000. The product is due to start shipping to backers in April, so hopefully retail availability should follow soon after.
