Garmin launches golf wearable for newbies
Garmin has launched the Approach X10, a wearable for rookie golfers.
Even though it resembles the many fitness trackers in Garmin’s line-up, this wearable will not provide you with step, distance or calorie counts. No, the Approach X10 is not about that. Garmin had simple in mind when it designed its latest golf band.
What you will get is a golfing buddy who will let you how far you are from the pin on over 41,000 pre-loaded courses worldwide. The built-in GPS knows when you’ve moved to the next hole, and lets you know distances to the front, back and middle of the green, as well as any hazards.
Furthermore, the 1-inch touch-screen will show you the layout of the green, so you can position the flag accurately. The discrete and comfortable band even promises to keep tabs on key game stats including greens in regulation, putts and fairways, and will also measure shot distance.
The Approach X10 is compatible with Garmin’s golf app. This enables you to view online leader boards on any golf course, and compete with friends and other golfers.
“The Approach X10 is a simple and intuitive band perfect for beginners just starting to learn the game, or for avid golfers who want a fundamental golf band used exclusively on the course,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales.
“Even if you’ve never played the course before, the Approach X10 will give you the tools to swing with confidence.”
In terms of other specs, the lightweight band is water resistant down to 5 ATM so can withstand pretty much any weather elements. The battery has enough juice for around 12 hours in GPS mode, which ensures you can play more than one round.
This is a fitness band designed primarily for golfers who want course information and GPS positioning. It focuses on the basics and does away with bells and whistles of some of Garmin’s other golf wearables.
The Approach X10 is available now on amazon.
