The Polar Beat app turns your smartphone into a fitness tracker, providing real-time heart rate data and training guidance. If you pair the app with a Polar heart rate sensor, such as the Polar OH1 or Polar H10, there is now some additional functionality.

These new Smart Coaching features include the following:

  • Fitness Test: this is a five minute test that gives you a gauge of your current fitness level;
  • EnergyPointer: gives guidance on how to achieve your goals faster by illustrating the main effects of workouts;
  • Benefit Target: allows you to set goals and receive real-time voice guidance to help you achieve them;
  • Running Index: provides an easy to understand metric illustrating how your running performance and efficiency is changing over time.

The update has started rolling out last week and is expected to make its rounds in the next few days. The app can be found on the App Store and Google Play.

  • well – a bit misleading. They don’t get that feature – the former buyable feature gets free. 😉

    Anyway: makes me like my H10 even more. And as i am still looking what my next wristband fitness tracker (workouts only – no 24/7 crap, the rest of the time my watch stays there (no hybrid alternative is close to be a replacement to those two trackers (fitness and time that is)) and prefered Tomtom so far (which according to news shut their tracker section down – polar made a little plus with features like this.

    what they still need is a direct forum for user feedback etc. like tomtom has. If they already got that – its to hard to find..
