First introduced on the Vivoactive 3 in late 2017, Garmin Pay is a contactless payment solution designed for people on the move. The watch comes with a built-in NFC chip for storing credit card information. The functionality is enabled by FitPay and supports Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards from a number of issuing banks.
The tech has since been built into a number of Garmin watches. This includes the Vivoactive 3 Music, Forerunner 645, Forerunner 645 Music and Fenix 5 Plus series, as well as the D2 Delta aviator watch series.
Garmin Pay is now joining Discover’s other contactless payment options which include Apple Pay, Android Pay and FitPay. Once a Discover card is added to Garmin’s virtual wallet (through the Garmin Connect), users can tap and pay with just a few quick touches.
“Consumers are constantly on the go and our goal is to make it as simple and seamless as possible for our cardmembers to pay with their Discover card, including on IoT and wearable devices,” said Shaida Lynch, vice president of e-business at Discover.
“Now someone can be out on a jog or running errands and the ability to pay with Discover from their Garmin watch is just a quick tap away.”
