Unimat: improve your workouts with this unique smart fitness mat

IronCloud: a robust, intelligent multi-sport GPS watch

Created by a Chinese teacher from Ukraine, Unimat is an intelligent fitness mat. Whether you’re into Yoga, Zumba, Agility drills, Functional, Cardio or Core training, the gizmo will teach you new skills and keep tabs on your progress.

Users are meant to connect the mat to the control box and select a training programme and skill level. To make following instructions easier, the thing comes with a height adjustable stand where you can rest your phone.

The concept by which it works resembles a game. Simply follow the multi-coloured lights embedded into the mat. These guide your steps. The touch recognition system recognises your movements and lights up with your next step.

There’s also a more advanced Pro version that comes with integrated pressure sensors. This allows Unimate to  automatically record your reps, sets, time, power and volume. Your progress is displayed in the accompanying smartphone app, along with goal based programs and hundreds of exercises.

Whether you’re looking to gain straight, improve agility or lose weight, Unimat will make your workouts more productive and interesting. The mat weighs around 2kgs and folds away nicely so is very portable. It comes with a strap so you can sling it over your shoulder for easy carrying. Battery life is around 10 hours between charges.

At the moment there’s only a working demo, not a final product. But the company has recently turned to Indiegogo to to make Unimat a reality. With a month to go in their campaign, they should be able to raise enough funds.
