LIZ: a smart bottle with UV sterilization and hydration reminders
Whether you’re commuting, at work, training or just hanging out, water bottles are a great sidekick to a busy day. But why not go a step further and choose a smart hydration bottle? There are more and more to choose from. The latest comes from French-based Noerden. It helps you answer the question – when’s the last time you washed your water bottle?

LIZ is a smart water bottle that is a bit different from the competition in that it comes with a UV sterilisation system built into the lid. Most of us know that reusable bottles are a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. There’s no way around it. Every time you take a sip you’re leaving your germs on the bottle. The dampness of the bottle only contributes to fungi growth.
This is why it is recommended that you rewash a bottle after every use. But let’s face it. Most of us don’t do this. LIZ makes the process much easier thanks to a mechanism that allows the bottle to clean itself. Simply press a button in your empty bottle or clear beverage. The thing uses UV-C light to destroy 99.9% of harmful viruses and odor-causing bacteria by breaking down their DNA.
Whats more, LIZ will keep your beverage hot, warm or cold for up to 24 hours and it will even spit out hydration reminders. It will also tell you the temperature of the liquid inside.
“Water makes up 60% of bodies and 85% of people’s brains,” said Christophe Cermolacce , Founder and General Manager at NOERDEN.
“Even a 2% drop in our hydration level can cause immediate physical tiredness and loss of concentration. A healthy adult requires 1.5-2L of water per day, but in fact 75% of people suffer from dehydration. With LIZ’s smart hydration reminders, users are reminded every 2 hours to drink.”
The Indiegogo campaign to make the product a reality is more than half way to its campaign goal. With 27 days left it looks like it will hit the target. Backers can expect to receive their smart water bottle in September.
