We recently wrote about a number of Fossil watches that have dropped by the FCC. The company has now unveiled some of them. Fossil Group’s 4th generation technology brought a heart rate sensor, GPS, NFC and water-resistance of at least 3 ATM. 5th generation brings all this and more.

The new watches are dubbed Carlyle HR and Julianna HR. The first comes in three 44mm (12mm thickness) iterations which include Smoke Stainless Steel, Black Silicone and Dark Brown Leather. The more feminine Julianna also comes in three 44mm (12mm thickness) iterations – Blush Leather, Rose-Gold Tone Stainless Steel and Black Stainless Steel.

All of these come with 8 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM and Quallcomm’s Snapdragon 3100 processor. Up to now, Fossil Sport was the company’s only smartwatch with the latest Snapdragon processor.

The Gen 5’s come with a speaker lets you do some nifty things. You can ask Google Assistant on your wrist to play music, tell you know the forecast and anything really you can think of. The watches can also be used to hear and not just see the response, answer your calls right on your wrist, listen to your favourite tunes and more.

WearOS watches are known for their notoriously poor battery life. The latest generation of Fossil watches help the situation a bit through something the company calls “smart battery modes”. In normal mode the devices can keep ticking for about a day. Switch on the smart battery modes and they’ll help you extend your battery for several days. This is, of course, with limited functionality.

Other than that, the latest crop of Fossil watches come with all the 4th Gen stuff. This includes a 1.3 inch AMOLED touchscreen (328ppi pixel resolution), built-in GPS, activity tracking including heart rate, notifications (text, email, social media, app alerts), customisable dials, Google Pay and more. They are also swim-proof (3 ATM).

Carlyle HR and Julianna HR will set you back $295 US dollars. All of these are compatible with Android™ 4.4+ (excluding Go edition) and iOS 9.3+. You can pick them up on the company’s website and Amazon (links below).
