The first information about a possible Xiaomi-branded smartwatch arrived a few weeks ago. Eagle eyed developers spotted code in the Wear OS companion app for Android on a device called “Mi Watch”. There was another mention of a companion app called Mi Wear – a likely reference to Xiaomi software as the app that is used for its Mi Band is called Mi Fit. Currently there is no app named Mi Wear.
Now some more news on a possible watch comes from China. According to the report, the new wearable will be officially unveiled in the Chinese market before the end of this month.
There is not much that is known about technical specs. However, the little information that has been revealed points to a high end product.
Apparently, the watch will be based on a customized version of Wear OS called “Mi Wear OS”. Whats more it will have support for eSIM cards, 4G LTE, NFC for payments on the go and a voice assistant. On the design side, it will feature a traditional look, with a round case.
About a month ago, Xiaomi registered several names in China. This includes Millenium MIX Alpha, Mi MIX Alpha and Mi Watch COLOR. The Mi MIX Alpha was introduced recently. Which just leaves Mi Watch.
Mi Band is manufactured by Huami which has a long line of Amazfit-branded smartwatches. Xiaomi on the other hand is yet to release its own smartwatch. If this rumors turn out to be correct, this will change very soon. We’ll update this story, of course, as and when we hear more.
