Pictures of Garmin Forerunner 255 Music break cover

A Danish retailer has leaked pictures of the Garmin Forerunner 255 Music watch. The device is expected to launch in the weeks ahead.

Just yesterday we covered the Garmin Forerunner 955 retail listing. The US website Beach Camera has published pictures of the device alongside some of the specs. That timepiece is expected to land in a solar and non-solar version.

The other device that is hotly anticipated is the Forerunner 255. Now we have the first images of the device, which were published by Danish online retail website LOBEREN. The price listed is 3.099 Danish Krone which works out to just under $450. This is $100 more than the Forerunner 245 Music. Which can actually be picked up quite a bit cheaper on Amazon today.

The price on the Danish website tallies with a previous leak from a German Redditor. He stated that the Forerunner 255 with music will retail for 400 (around $425), without music for 350 (around $370). He also added that the launch would be June 1st.

Garmin Forerunner 255 – specs, appearance

Unfortunately we have not learned anything new about the actual specs as the retail listing consists only of the five images and price. But we have reported previously that multiple iterations of the Forerunner 255 are to be expected. This includes the 255 and 255s – a large and small variant of the watch. Each of these comes in a music and non-music version. All of these have recently passed through the Singapore Government TLS.

As far as actual sizes, the 245 is sold in a 42mm diameter case. We could, very well, see 42mm and 47mm versions of the 255 if Garmin follows the same size options as on the Fenix line. Or something else if it doesn’t.

The music iterations of the 255 will have Wi-Fi connectivity in addition to Bluetooth and ANT+. The non-music versions will only have the latter two.

As far as looks, the watch doesn’t appear to be too different from Forerunner 245. Same display along with the same five physical buttons. One of the ways to tell this version apart from the previous one is that the top right button has a green colour around it.

You can check out the pictures of the watch on the LOBEREN website, although we are guessing the listing will be pulled soon. A Redditor has also published the images on the social platform.

It will be interesting to see whether the Forerunner 255 gets touchscreen functionality. The 955 is expected to come with this. That might account for the $100 premium in price over the 245.

As far as functionality, we learned yesterday of some new features that are coming to Garmin watches including Training Readiness Score and HRV Status. One would expect both of these to land on the 255. With this newly acquired ability, the popular running watch will be much better at determining whether you should train on a particular day or take it easy.

Other than that you can expect the latest generation sensors and other improvements under the hood. A slight upgrade on the 7 day battery life of the current version would also be nice.

According to the retail listing, the 955 is seeing a doubling of song storage from 1000 to 2000. The 245 has space for about 500 songs on the 3.5GB of memory. It is entirely possible this could receive a boost when the new timepiece comes out.

No doubt, as launch date approaches more information will become available. Not too long to go now before the official reveal.
