Fossil Gen 6 hybrids launch alongside a redesigned smartphone app
We are still waiting for the first Gen 7 Fossil Group watches to land. In the meantime, the company has released a few Gen 6 hybrids in a number of different design styles and announced a revamp of its companion app.
New Fossil hybrids
Fossil has been teasing the new timepieces via its website for a few days now. They’ve been made official today and come with the same display, size and definition, as well as 3 ATM water-resistance as before. The upgraded features include a microphone and pre-loaded access to favorite Alexa features, blood oxygen measurements that come courtesy of an improved heart rate sensor, an all-new dashboard, longer battery life (up to two weeks) and more.
The Gen 6 hybrid launches in two distinct design platforms based on the best-selling traditional watches Machine and Stellaand. Both come with interchangeable strap options and customisable watch faces.
The Hybrid Machine has a 45mm case with knurled top ring and pushers. You can pick it up in black, silver-tone or smoke.
The Gen 6 Hybrid Stella comes in a more feminine 40.5mm case. It packs a cling-edge top ring, 150 hand-placed crystals on most styles and beveled mechanical hands. You can get that one in rose gold-tone, silver-tone and two-tone colourways.
You will be able to purchase both watches globally from June 27th, 2022 for $229 for leather and silicone strap styles. There’s also a more pricey bracelet style which will set you back $249. The Machine and Stellaand hybrid timepieces work with 24mm and 18mm straps and bracelets respectively.
Skagen Gen 6 Hybrids
Skagen, which is a sub-brand of Fossil, has launched a Gen 6 Jorn hybrid. It comes in a Rose Gold 38mm variant with a Midnight Blue dial and 18mm strap. That one can also be picked up with a Silver case and White dial.

There’s also a larger, more masculine Charcole Black 42mm variant. It comes with a Midnight Blue dial and 22mm leather Brown or Milanese strap. The other option is Midnight Blue case and dial, paired with a silicone strap.
The small size has about a week of battery, the large size twice that. All variants have been up for purchase on Skagen’s website for a few days now at a price of 219 euros in Europe.
Redesign of user interface
Fossil has also used this opportunity to announce a redesign of the accompanying smartphone app. The user interface on version 5.0.0 is clearer and better laid out than previously. Best of all, owners of previous generation hybrids will also benefit from the new software. Nice one, Fossil!
The hybrid watches get a new circular menu that looks quite nifty. The middle button setting seems to be gone for long clicks. Perhaps because it confused people and they weren’t sure how to use it.
The company says it has also simplified on-boarding and set-up of Alexa, and there’s an automatic, smart step goal. The app now features dynamic cards with goal celebrations and more.
