Suunto 9 Peak Pro launches with upgraded battery

Suunto has made 9 Peak Pro watch official today. The device comes with up to 21 days of battery life, 10 ATM water-proofing and 80 sports modes.

This is an enhanced version of the vanilla Suunto 9 Peak watch. That one was unveiled in May 2021. Its claim to fame is that it is the Finnish brand’s thinnest and lightest sports-watch to date and it charges really fast.

Suunto 9 Peak was designed to be more pleasant to wear than anything else the company has produced so far. For comparison purposes, the device is 37% thinner and 36% lighter than Baro. But the case is smaller measuring only 43mm. Inside it you can find a 1.2 inch LCD display.

Suunto 9 Peak Pro – what’s new?

As far as the new device, the company has retained the same thin and premium design. This includes the stainless-steel housing and sapphire glass protection. There are four models to choose from in addition to a further two made with grade 5 titanium and weights.

No difference in the touch-enabled display as compared to the predecessor generation. It has largely the same measurements alongside the three navigational buttons on the right side. But you do get at least one additional colour – a new green metal case that is paired with a matching nylon strap.

The performance upgrades are to do with battery life. There are three battery modes: Performance, Endurance and Tour. You now get 21 days between charges in smartwatch mode, or 40 hours with GPS (GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou) switched on in Performance Mode. This improves on the 14 days and 25 hours of the non-pro version. There is also fast charging with the watch going from zero to full in one hour.

Other than that, you get 10 ATM water-resistance and the 80 sports modes of its non-Pro sibling. No other changes have been revealed as far as specs.

Suunto 9 Peak Pro runs on the company’s proprietary OS. If you are looking to take advantage of the Google WearOS platform, 7 Peak is still the brand’s only option.

This is a very streamlined device. The weight of the watch has grown by 2 grams to a total of 64 grams. The device is only 10.8 millimeters thick, while the supplied strap is 17.5 centimeters long.
