Luxurious smartwatches get more modern: TAG Heuer connects Calibre E4 with Wear OS 3

TAG Heuer is introducing the Google Wear OS 3 software to its Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch. This update brings a number of new features to the luxurious watch, including improved connectivity, a smoother user experience, and new apps. However, the software removes the Google Assistant from the watch, which is not TAG Heuer’s making but Google’s. Learn more about this upgrade and which smartwatches have been confirmed to run Wear OS 3 so far.

If you’re holding on to a Connected Calibre E4 watch, you’ll be delighted to hear that TAG Heuer has announced an upgrade. The company is bringing Google Wear OS 3 software to the timepiece. This slaps on a number of new features and enhancements, such as better connectivity, a completely revamped user interface, and significant app updates. TAG Heuer Golf Full Shot Tracking, for example, is one of the new features exclusive to Wear OS 3.

However, there is one caveat. The update to Wear OS 3 removes the Google Assistant from the watch. But this is not TAG Heuer’s making, but Google’s, who have yet to release the Assistant on watches that run Wear OS 3 on a Snapdragon 4100 SoC, i.e. all the watches apart from Samsung’s and Google’s own Pixel Watch.

Software development is not something that luxury smartwatch manufacturers are typically good at, but TAG Heuer is. For the always-on state of the display (AOD), which is available for Wear OS 2 and 3, the company recently updated its watch faces to include full color.

The Wear OS 3 upgrade is a significant step toward streamlining the TAG Heuer user experience and providing the most premium and intuitive interface. The new operating system started rolling out on March 14th. This should make its way to all owners of the watch in the coming days.
