Garmin Forerunner series gets minor Beta update for 945, 745, & 245 models
Garmin has shown some love for the popular Forerunner 945, 745, and 245 watches. The company began rolling out a minor Beta update with the version number 12.51 yesterday. This software version is slated to become a public update as a Release Candidate, assuming no critical issues are discovered during the beta testing phase.
Beta Update Rollout – version 12.51
The update will be automatically delivered to participants in the Public Beta programme’s watches via the Garmin Connect mobile app. For those not in the know, Garmin Connect checks for updates every 24 hours, and once found, the update may take a few hours to transfer and become available for installation on the watch. So be patient if it hasn’t arrived yet to your watch. At the time of writing, the rollout had reached 50%.
If you have not done so already, this link will take you to instructions on how to join the beta programme. The other option is to wait for the software to reach public release.
Improvements and user feedback
As mentioned, the enhancements included in version 12.51 are minor. They only include a few things such as improved bike camera support, improved handling of altitude calibration errors, along with resolution of reported sudden elevation changes during activities. In addition, the update includes bug fixes and general user experience enhancements.
As always, Garmin encourages users to provide feedback on any issues they may encounter by visiting the Bug Reports section. For broader discussions and inquiries related to the update, users can join the Community Discussion.
Garmin’s commitment to updates
These three timepieces have been around for a long time. The 245 and 945 were released in April 2019, with the 745 following in September 2020. One of the things that sets Garmin apart from many of its competitors is its dedication to releasing software updates long after its devices have been released. This is a significant benefit for users who purchased an older Garmin device but want to take advantage of new features and improvements.
