Get ready for the Garmin Epix 2 Pro: Release date, sizes & prices
The Garmin Epix 2 Pro watch is expected to be announced on May 31st, according to a new leak from a Garmin reseller and recent regulatory filings. The device should become available for purchase in early June.
Three case sizes, more premium materials
The case size options, release date and price were leaked by a retailer, this morning, on a Garmin-related Facebook group. As such, it is essential to note that this information is currently only a rumor.
The Garmin Epix 2 Pro will apparently offer customers greater choice in sizing that the original, with a 42mm, 47mm, and 51mm case size. This is in contrast to the original Epix 2, which was only available in a 47mm case. The Epix 2 Pro is also expected to come with a slightly more premium build.
Additionally, the new watch will be offered in both sapphire and non-sapphire versions. The sapphire version will retail at $1,100, while the non-sapphire variant will cost $1,000. This is around $100 more than the current iteration.
A larger display?
Potential improvements could include a slightly larger display. To remind, the Garmin Forerunner 965 features a 1.4-inch AMOLED screen, which is 0.1 inches larger than the 1.3-inch display found on the Epix. This difference is mainly due to a smaller bezel, which leaves room for increasing the screen size while maintaining overall dimensions.
Other features on our wish-list for the Epix 2 Pro include a flashlight, akin to the one that can be found on Fenix 7X and Instinct 2X. A speaker and microphone for phone calls and voice assistant functionality would also be nice.
While it is unlikely that the Epix 2 Pro will come equipped with new sensors, skin temperature functionality remains a possibility. It has already been spotted in the Garmin Connect code.
The same applies to new performance metrics. But if they come, they will inevitably trickle down to the recent crop of devices.
The original Epix 2 was released in January 2022 as a more luxurious version of the Garmin Fenix 7. The main distinction between the two is the AMOLED display and premium design of the Epix, which accounts for its higher price tag. The watch has received a good reception and has a fan base.
Regulatory approvals support the rumour
Other evidence supporting the rumor of the Garmin Epix 2 Pro’s imminent release include recent regulatory approvals with the United States FCC and a Singapore regulatory agency. Both of these landed in the past month or so for three different sized iterations of a Garmin sports watch with Bluetooth, WiFi, and ANT+ connectivity.
Some media outlets have speculated that FCC and Singapore regulator approvals relate to an upcoming Fenix 8 watch. However, this is not correct. We don’t expect the Fenix 8 to land until early 2024.
To dispel any doubt, we also spotted a confirmation that comes from SIRIM in Malaysia. This is a government-owned company that provides various services related to standards and quality. SIRIM stands for Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia.
They have quoted the upcoming Epix 2 Pro by name a few days ago as shown by the screen-shot below. This is the same product model that appears in the FCC and Singapore regulator filings. Which means all of these are referring to the same watch.

Don’t expect too many upgrades on Epix 2 Pro – after all this is an interim edition. No doubt, as the release date approaches, more information on the upcoming device will become available.
