Samsung has just unveiled a limited variant of its Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, dubbed the “Astro Edition.” It is inspired by the astrolabe, an ancient tool that helped scientists and travellers tell the time and navigate their way. The Astro Edition is a tribute to the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region’s legacy of scientific and innovative contributions, particularly in time, astronomy, and mathematics.
Omar Saheb, MENA Regional Marketing Director, stated that this special edition sets the stage for the region’s future pioneers. It also reflects Samsung’s belief in the region’s potential as a global hub for innovation.
Design and inspiration
In appearance this new variant doesn’t seem very different from the original. In fact, you need to look hard to spot the differences.
The main and pretty much only one is that the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic Astro Edition features a “Black Astro” bezel. The bezel design includes constellations, stars, and other space bodies, depicting a celestial theme.
Beyond looks, the watch comes with some exclusive software features and watch faces. This includes a compass complication, lunar and solar trackers. These features allow users to track the movements of the sun and moon right from their wrist. The watch also includes an additional fabric strap, Astro Edition collectibles, and access to Samsung’s VIP exclusive promotion store.
The Astro Edition watch is available only in a 47mm size and it is exclusive to multiple MENA markets, including UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, and Morocco. The watch can be found on Samsung’s website.
If you live in this region and are into astronomy and math, it might pique your interest. It is not clear whether the limited edition will be made available in other countries. It doesn’t appear this will be the case, at least for now.
Comparison with Standard Galaxy Watch 6 Classic
As far as ability, the Astro Edition shares many features with the standard Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. This includes physical characteristics such as the 47mm size and the 1.4 GHz Exynos W930 chip. However, the new variant stands out with its unique bezel design and exclusive software features. For some the differences may seem minimal, but the Astro Edition offers a unique blend of technology and tradition.
