Full specs unveil of the upcoming Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro

Xiaomi may be about to release another smartwatch according to a new leak and earlier regulatory filing. Watch 2 Pro is shaping up to be the company’s first timepiece with SIM support. Look for it to land at the end of October.

The predecessors: Watch S1 Pro and Watch S2

The Watch S1 Pro was released in early 2023 for the global market and a few months earlier in China. It has been praised for its sleek design, excellent battery life, and user-friendly interface. In our hands-on review we note that this is a hassle-free wrist companion thanks to its relatively low price, excellent battery life, simple user interface, and sleek design.

Released in late 2022, the Watch S2 earned accolades for its advanced health tracking features. It calculates metrics like fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, and protein volume. The watch also debuted skin temperature monitoring, a feature that the Watch 2 Pro will continue to offer. This capability can yield valuable health insights, such as the early detection of potential illnesses.

Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro: The IMEI database hint of cellular connectivity

Back in July, the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) database first revealed the Watch 2 Pro, strongly indicating its cellular capabilities. For those unfamiliar with IMEI, it’s a global system that uses unique identifiers, known as IMEI numbers, to track all mobile devices. Network providers and regulatory bodies primarily use it to manage mobile devices, deter theft, and ensure regulatory compliance.

In fact – two devices were spotted in the filing. The first goes under the regulatory moniker M2311W1, the second under M2312W1. Perhaps it is simply a size difference between two variants of the same timepiece.

Anticipated SIM support in the Watch 2 Pro aims to elevate the user experience. Users could potentially make calls, send messages, and browse the internet directly from their wrist, removing the need for an internet-connected smartphone. This autonomy marks a first for Xiaomi and signifies an important milestone in the evolution of their product line.

Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro – leaked images and specs

We now have some new info. Information and renders published on Twitter gives us actual images of the upcoming device.

The timepiece maintains Xiaomi’s preference for a round form factor in smartwatches. The leaked images reveal two color options: one with a brown leather band and a steel finish, and another with a black fluoroplastic band featuring a black gunmetal brushed finish.

The design also includes two buttons apart from the rotating crown, which could be programmable for various functions. The black variant even sports a textured bezel, hinting at a rotating dial similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch Classic.
