Xiaomi Watch 2 debuts at MWC, expanding wearable lineup

Xiaomi has broadened its smartwatch offerings with the official launch of the Xiaomi Watch 2 at MWC Barcelona. Priced at €200, the device has already been listed on various Amazon sites across Europe, indicating a well-anticipated launch.

Design: Functional and fashionable

The Xiaomi Watch 2 is designed with an aluminum body that ensures durability without compromising on elegance. It boasts a 5 ATM water resistance rating, making it suitable for swimming and other water-related activities. The watch features a 1.43” AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466px, offering crisp and vibrant visuals.

Under the hood, the Watch 2 is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset and runs on Wear OS, providing a smooth and responsive user experience. The fact that it’s running on Google’s operating system is good news. Wear OS could use some bolstering now that Fossil has announced it is pulling out of the smartwatch market.

One of the key highlights of the Xiaomi Watch 2 is its comprehensive health monitoring capabilities. It comes equipped with multi-satellite connectivity, heart rate monitoring, and SpO2 monitoring, catering to the needs of users who prioritize health and fitness tracking. The device supports a wide range of activities with its robust suite of sensors, ensuring accurate and reliable data for users to track their progress and achieve their fitness goals.

The Pro alternative and value proposition

For those looking for a bit more luxury and functionality, Xiaomi also offers the Watch 2 Pro version. That one has been available since September 2023. It runs an extra €20 for the Bluetooth version or €50 for the LTE version.

The Pro variant features a stainless steel body for added durability and a premium feel. Also, it’s worth noting that unlike the Pro version, the standard Watch 2 does not include a rotating crown, which may affect navigation and user experience for some. Instead, you just get two flat buttons.

Both devices can be purchased from Xiaomi’s website. Watch 2 can be picked up in a choice between a Black and Silver case. 2 Pro comes in the exact same colour options.
