Mobvoi updates TicWatch Pro 3 Series & E3: Customisation, security & more

Mobvoi is rolling out a new firmware update for its 4100 series, hitting devices like the TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS, and TicWatch E3. This update is packed with cool stuff to make your watch smarter and smoother. Sadly, if you’re rocking a Pro 3 LTE, you’ll have to hang tight a little longer for your turn.

What’s in the box?

This firmware update, carrying versions RMRB.240228.002 and RMKB.240228.004, offers a range of enhancements. They target user experience, security, and overall performance.

One of the most welcome features is the addition of customizable function keys. Now, users can remap those side buttons to the apps or shortcuts they use most, creating a more personalized and streamlined interaction with their smartwatch.

Mobvoi has also integrated the February Android security patch, safeguarding these devices against potential security threats.

To enhance performance, the company has made the decision to remove pre-installed watch faces that have likely lost their appeal and infrequently used apps such as Calculator and TicBreathe. This deliberate action frees up vital memory, resulting in a snappier and more responsive system.

Furthermore, users who encountered an echo issue affecting the other party during Bluetooth calls will find relief in this update. Mobvoi has addressed this annoyance, leading to clearer and more enjoyable call experiences. As with many firmware releases, this update also includes various unspecified bug fixes that should contribute to a smoother overall operation of your TicWatch.

Unfortunately, owners of the TicWatch Pro 3 LTE will have to wait a bit longer, as this update doesn’t cater to that specific model.

Schedule and now to get it

The update is heading your way in stages:

  • 10% of users get it on April 2nd,
  • 30% more on April 3rd,
  • 50% on April 4th, and
  • Everyone’s in on the fun by April 5th.

This staggered rollout means Mobvoi can keep things running smoothly as they update.

Getting your update on

Before you jump into updating, make sure your watch is charged up to 90% or just leave it on its charger. This is important as you don’t want your watch dying mid-update. Once you’re charged up, head over to the ‘System updates’ section in your settings menu. Your watch will do a quick check for the update and guide you through downloading and installing it. Keep your watch hooked up to Wi-Fi to keep things quick and avoid any data charges.
