Balancing digital life: Ultrahuman’s latest PowerPlug

Ultrahuman has introduced a new feature for its RingAir smart ring users. The PowerPlug – Screen Time is the latest addition to the company’s suite of add-on functionalities, designed to help users manage their digital habits more effectively.

PowerPlugs are optional features that users can install within the Ultrahuman smartphone app, enhancing the capabilities of the RingAir smart ring. While some PowerPlugs come at an additional cost, the Screen Time feature is currently available for free to all RingAir users.

The Screen Time PowerPlug operates on a structured, phase-based approach to help users maintain a healthier relationship with their devices. It divides the day into four distinct phases, each designed to address different aspects of screen time management.

The Morning Restriction Phase limits screen use for the first hour after waking, encouraging users to start their day without immediate digital distractions. During the Tolerant Phase, users have more flexibility in their screen usage while still maintaining balanced digital habits. The Wind Down Phase begins three hours before the user’s typical bedtime, encouraging reduced screen exposure to prepare for sleep. Lastly, the Screen Time Restricted Window strictly limits usage in the hour immediately preceding bedtime, aiming to minimize the impact of blue light and digital stimulation on sleep quality.

Users can easily track their progress and current phase through a chart displayed within the Ultrahuman app. This visual representation helps users stay aware of their screen time goals throughout the day.

According to Ultrahuman, the Screen Time PowerPlug has already been installed by 4,000 users.

My takeaway

The introduction of this PowerPlug aligns with Ultrahuman’s approach to health tracking. In my hands-on review of the Ultrahuman Ring Air, I found it to be a strong contender in the smart ring market. While its accuracy is comparable to other devices in its class, what sets the RingAir apart is its companion smartphone app. Rather than simply presenting raw data, the app functions more as a comprehensive lifestyle guide, offering actionable insights and now, with the Screen Time PowerPlug, practical tools for developing healthier digital habits.

As our reliance on digital devices continues to grow, features like the Screen Time PowerPlug represent a step towards more mindful technology use. By integrating screen time management with wearable health tracking, Ultrahuman is addressing the interconnected nature of digital habits and overall well-being.
