RingConn Kickstarter campaign closes in on $3 million!

RingConn’s Kickstarter campaign for the Gen 2 Smart Ring has skyrocketed to nearly $3 million with 21 days to go before it closes.

This is an udated version of the company’s Gen 1 device, launched in 2023. Gen 2 brings a number of enhancements such as a more discreet form-factor, awesome battery life of over 10 days, better water-resistance and the addition of Sleep Apnea tracking. You can read my full review of the device on this link. I found it to be one of the best smart ring options out there, excelling at recovery type statistics.

With a good track record, it comes as no surprise to me that the company is doing so well with its latest crowdfunding effort. The fundraising for the Gen 2 device is approaching $3 million. And that’s with 21 days left in the campaign. It is reasonable to expect, by the end, RingConn 2 Smart Ring should raise four or five million dollars in funding through Kickstarter.

The top crowdfunded smart rings

As noted on Reddit (r/Smartrings), RingConn has managed to break a few records with its latest effort:

  • In the initial 4 hours of the campaign, they managed to raise $1 million, the fastest smart ring campaign to achieve this. That smashed the previous record by a whopping 35 days, held by Muse Wearables’ Ring One.
  • It took the company less than 36 hours to top the amount raised via its previous campaign. That one closed in January 2023 having raised $1,181,081 USD by 7,009 backers.
  • It took RingConn Gen 2 around 40 hours to top the $1.3 million raised if the in-demand extension of the Gen 1 ring on Indiegogo is included.

You might be wondering if this will become the most crowdfunded rings ever. The answer to this would be – yes.

RingConn Gen 2 has now surpassed Ring One which raised around $1.7 million by 7,916 backers including in-demand. That device is now in third place. And it pushed the previous holder of the lofty title – the Velia ring – to second place. That one raised a cool $2 million from 8,500 backers including in-demand.

Interestingly enough, both of those campaigns closed in 2023 and their backers have still not received the devices. But RingConn is planning to start shipping the Gen 2 in September.

Anyway, things are heating up in the smart ring space. In the past two years this has become one of the fastest growing segments in the wearables market.

Zepp Health was the first major smartphone brand to release a smart ring. Their Amazfit Helio landed in June. As noted in my hands-on review it impresses with accuracy in tracking high intensity exercise. And we have the Samsung Galaxy Ring which landed just a few weeks ago. Exciting times ahead!
