Garmin Coach adds adaptive cycling workouts & new smart features
Garmin has unveiled an update to its Garmin Coach feature, expanding its offerings to include personalized training plans for cyclists while improving on existing options for runners. These adaptive training plans are accessible through the Garmin Connect app
As detailed in the press release, these plans take into account factors like elevation gain and distance, ensuring cyclists of all experience levels are prepared for the specific demands of their courses. Whether preparing for a specific event or improving overall performance, you should be covered.

The running segment hasn’t been left behind. Garmin has fine-tuned its algorithms to provide even more responsive training plans. These plans now adjust in real-time, taking into account daily performance variations, recovery needs, and even environmental factors like weather conditions. Users can still choose from a selection of expert coaches.
What’s more, all of this can be viewed both in Garmin connect on directly on compatible smartwatches or cycling computers, including models from the fēnix 7, Forerunner, and Edge series. This should make it easy to follow the Coach instructions.
Next three months of updates
The company has also published in September 2024 Smartwatch & cycling computer feature update. We get one of these every three months. It details what features smartwatches and cycling computers will receive in the next quarter.
Here is a breakdown in the table below.
As you can see, other features include Garmin Share. This allows users to exchange routes, saved locations, and workout data with nearby devices, enhancing group training experiences. For cyclists, improvements to GroupRide include real-time messaging, live location tracking, and incident detection for increased safety. Race time predictions have been refined, offering more accurate estimates based on training history and recent performance metrics. We all know how inaccurate they can be.
Finally, pool swim workouts are getting descriptive intensity targets, pace targets and defined drill types. Plus you can now adjust them for different pool sizes.
Many of these features have been available to those enrolled in the Beta programme for a while now. But with the incoming public release all users of compatible Garmin devices will get them.
