Zepp Health expands Amazfit T-Rex 3 capabilities with winter 2024 update

A firmware update is currently rolling out for the Amazfit T-Rex 3 which adds enhanced messaging capabilities and a new dog walking mode.

However, the rollout process has faced some challenges, with users in different regions reporting varying availability of the update. So if it has not hit your location yet, patience is your friend.

The T-Rex 3 update 3.2.8.5 adds some interesting additions. The highlight is enhanced messaging support for Android users. The watch now offers both speech-to-text input and a comprehensive keyboard with letters, numbers, symbols, and emoji support. While the compact keyboard layout is awkward for extended typing, the ability to respond directly from the watch adds more options for communication.

Another unique addition is the dog-walking tracking mode. It’s an interesting feature that may appeal to dog owners, though it feels somewhat niche for a broader audience. Even so, this update continues to improve the T-Rex 3’s capabilities, adding value for users. Better to have the option than not to have it.

Beyond that there are some technical improvements. This includes optimized processing for daylight saving time transitions, ensuring more accurate time display. Just in time, considering the clocks are meant to go back an hour at 2am on the last Sunday of October.

The update also refines offline map visualization, particularly for small lakes. Plus it enhances the stability of heart rate monitoring.

Here’s the full change-log.

Don’t forget to check out my full Amazfit T-Rex 3 review. The device offers exceptional value for money. While its bulky design and limited app ecosystem may not suit everyone, the watch excels with its bright AMOLED display, military-grade durability, and robust feature set including offline maps and 10 ATM water resistance. Despite lacking some advanced training metrics and speaker functionality found in premium alternatives, the T-Rex 3 delivers a reliable and feature-rich experience at a fraction of the cost of high-end competitors.
