Muse Ring One with blood pressure tracking now set for early 2025 delivery

Despite repeated promises of shipment, Muse Wearables’ device remains undelivered, with backers now eyeing January as the latest arrival date.

Back in April, we ran an article about India-based Muse Wearables and how they’ve started shipping the device to its backers. We went by their announcement which stated as much. However, we are into November now and nothing has been shipped to backers. The device has been in development ever since its Indiegogo campaign closed back in November 2023. The latest word is that the ring will be shipping to backers at the start of the year.

The company has stated multiple times since in the past few months that shipping is about to start, but postponed things shortly after. Which has left their backers frustrated – which is putting it mildly. Perhaps furious would be the better term. At least according to posts in the Facebook group for the ring. The constant delays have become a bit of a joke now and it’s worth reading through comments.

Features and innovation

The ring looks quite good, at least on paper. Equipped with Research Grade Optical PPG Sensors (Green, Red, and IR LEDs), the device will offer detailed insights into various health metrics:

• Fitness metrics: Tracks steps, calories, activity Strain Index, Vo2Max.
• Vital signs: Monitors HRV, heart rate, SpO2, skin temperature, Respiratory rate, and even blood pressure.
• Sleep: Analyzes sleep patterns and provides a sleep score.
• Readiness Score: Assesses your preparedness for the day.

Blood pressure is the standout innovation here. Muse Wearables says they have analysed five million data points from over 4,000 people to deliver this metric. There are no mainstream smart rings currently with the ability to monitor blood pressure from the finger.

Unique interface and payment solution

The ring will also have NFC payment compatibility. This works through a unique Turn Wheel interface, allowing users to switch between workout mode or payment mode with ease. A turn to the left can start a workout or a turn to the right can enable secure payments. Just wave your palm across any POS terminal to make secure payments in less than 4 seconds.

This unique feature sets the ring apart from others in the market, offering both convenience and security. The company says that contactless payments will be available both in its home market of India and internationally (US, Canada, Europe, Australia, Singapore and UAE). The service will work with Mastercard, VISA and Rupay.

Design and specifications

As far as design, the device is crafted from Titanium grade 2 and Ceramic (Zirconia), making it both lightweight and strong. Its coating and diamond polishing enhance its appearance and durability, while the inner layer uses medical-grade epoxy for comfort.

With water resistance up to 100 meters, Ring One can be worn while swimming or showering. It comes in Silver, Black, all-black, gold, and rose gold options. Muse plans to release limited edition 18K gold versions as well. The ring is available in 9 sizes, and each order includes a sizing kit.

Users should be able to use the ring for about a week between charges. The charging case extends this to a month.

Company background, market launch

Muse Wearables has a few years experience in wearables having launched analog smartwatches and a wearable health tracker. The ring will be their fourth product.

In total, Muse Wearables has raised over $1.6 million on Indiegogo for the device. The ring sold for $269 a pop on the crowdfunding platform but will revert to $349 once it hits retail availability. As you’d expect, there are various colours to choose from.

Last spring the company announced it has started shipping finished units out, about 5 months after the initially anticipated December delivery date. The first batch had, apparently, left the warehouse and the statement was that all orders should be filled by the end of May.

They even posted a few pictures of the first batch from their production facility.

So what’s going on? The product’s international backers have received nothing so far.

Our takeaway

Delays have become a normal thing when it comes to crowdfunded projects. It’s not like shopping on Amazon – you are not guaranteed delivery on time. In fact you are not guaranteed delivery of any kind. There are many projects that fail and their backers are left empty handed.

Is Muse Ring One a scam? Probably not. The company has posted a series of videos demonstrating their ring in action. But we can’t help that they have promised a lot – and are now struggling to deliver on the specs.

There is a reason no rings offer blood pressure tracking at the moment. The technology has not gone mainstream just yet. Even NFC is not something you find on most rings. Also, the design of Muse Ring One is not as simple as the current offerings that can be found on the market. The combination of these things may be what is causing the constant delays.

We can understand the challenges involved. But what is not good are the promises that are going unfulfilled. There must have been at least 4-5 occasions in the past year where shipping was “about to begin”.
