Amazfit T-Rex 3 update further improves heart rate tracking

Zepp Health is rolling out firmware version 3.2.9.3 for the Amazfit T-Rex 3. It focuses on improvements to workout heart rate measurement accuracy and system stability.

In my hands-on review of the T-Rex 3, I put the watch through its paces against the Garmin Forerunner 955. Among the watch’s extensive suite of over 170 sports modes, I paid special attention to its running performance, where precise heart rate monitoring is crucial.

The results were consistently impressive. During a half marathon test, the T-Rex 3 recorded an average heart rate of 149 BPM, coming remarkably close to the Forerunner 955’s reading of 148 BPM. The peak heart rate value was also nearly identical. This level of accuracy wasn’t a one-off occurrence – multiple running sessions showed similar consistency between the two devices. This performance marked a nice change from earlier T-Rex models. They often struggle to maintain accurate heart rate tracking during intense workouts.

The watch’s GPS capabilities have also proven robust in my testing. The T-Rex 3 consistently acquires satellite signals quickly, often faster than the Garmin Forerunner 955. While this aspect isn’t targeted in the current update, it’s worth noting as part of the watch’s overall strong performance package.

With this latest firmware update, Amazfit appears committed to further refining what is already a capable heart rate monitoring system. While the update’s impact remains to be tested, the solid foundation it builds on suggests promising results. It’s worth noting that, as mentioned in my review, users engaging in high-intensity workouts can still benefit from pairing the T-Rex 3 with a chest strap for maximum accuracy.

To install the update, T-Rex 3 users should ensure their watch is charged to at least 50% and connected to their smartphone. Open the Zepp app, navigate to Profile > Amazfit T-Rex 3 > System Update. If the update is available for your device, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it. Keep your watch and phone close together throughout the installation process.
