AFib detection now available for Ultrahuman Ring Air

Ultrahuman has announced the addition of the AFib Power Plug for its smart ring. This paid add-on, priced at $4.90 per month, focuses on detecting atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common and potentially dangerous heart rhythm condition. Powered by the FDA and CE-cleared FibriCheck service, this app marks the first implementation of AFib detection in smart ring technology.

The AFib Power Plug is designed to provide users with peace of mind through seamless, nocturnal heart rhythm monitoring. By capturing background heart rhythm data throughout the night, the feature generates daily medical-grade reports each morning. The insights include detailed PPG signal charts, tachograms, and Lorenz plots, offering a comprehensive look at heart rhythm patterns.

Users can expect one of four outcomes. These include Normal heart rhythm, Possible AFib detected, Possible rhythm irregularities, or Quality too low for analysis.

FibriCheck’s proven accuracy in detecting AFib, with a sensitivity of 91.86% and specificity of 97.59%, adds credibility to the service. Ultrahuman describes the feature as a proactive tool for stroke prevention and heart health maintenance. AFib often goes unnoticed due to its episodic nature. Early detection is, therefore, critical to avoiding severe complications such as stroke or heart failure.

The AFib detection feature is part of Ultrahuman’s broader PowerPlugs ecosystem, launched in July. It allows users to customize their health tracking through the Ultrahuman App. This ecosystem includes both free and premium plugins tailored to individual health needs. Other options range from circadian rhythm tracking to weight loss support, jet lag management, and menstrual cycle monitoring. By expanding the functionality of the Ring AIR, Ultrahuman aims to cater to a wider audience seeking tailored health insights.

The first smart ring with such capability

The introduction of AFib detection is particularly noteworthy, as no other smart ring currently offers this capability. By focusing on nocturnal monitoring, the feature emphasizes user convenience and minimal disruption. Wrist-based devices like smartwatches have offered similar functionalities. But this addition positions the Ring Air uniquely in the market, providing a compact and discreet solution for heart health tracking.

Although the AFib Power Plug is a paid service, its medical-grade accuracy and advanced reporting features may appeal to users seeking proactive heart health management. I’ve covered the Ultrahuman Ring AIR extensively, including a detailed hands-on review you can explore here. With the addition of AFib detection, the Ring AIR continues to expand its functionality beyond basic health tracking into more specialized medical monitoring capabilities.

Ultrahuman Ring Air is currently available at 20% off for Black Friday. (Check price on Ultrahuman | Amazon)
