Amazfit Balance firmware update introduces strength training analysis

The Amazfit Balance is receiving a firmware update (version 3.25.5.3) that slaps on some interesting new features. Among these, the standout is the Strength Training Quality Assessment. This addition provides post-workout insights offering users a deeper understanding of their strength training performance.

Strength training analysis and its benefits

Strength training has often been overlooked in wearables, with most devices focused on cardio and general fitness metrics. This update changes that for Amazfit Balance users, introducing detailed evaluations that highlight movement quality during resistance exercises.

This appears to be the same feature that has been available for a while now in a few high-end Amazfit models, such as the T-Rex Ultra, T-Rex 3, and Cheetah Pro. We can now add the Amazfit Balance to this list.

The feature assesses metrics like stability, rhythm, and continuity, offering an overall evaluation of performance. For example, it identifies minor shaking during movements, inconsistencies in rhythm, or pauses that disrupt flow. This allows users to fine-tune their form and adjust their workouts for better results. Unlike real-time feedback, the analysis is available post-workout, providing a moment for users to reflect on their performance and make informed changes.

Other updates

While strength training insights are clearly the highlight, the update includes several other improvements. Ski mountaineering mode caters to winter sports lovers, while niche activities like dog walking and snow shoveling now have dedicated tracking modes.

The firmware also introduces auto-start functionality for outdoor running and walking. Meanwhile, the new double-tap-to-wake feature, notification indicators, and Bluetooth disconnection alerts aim to streamline the overall user experience.

For users focused on uninterrupted training, the ability to block notifications during workouts and the improved Wake on Wrist Raise feature offer much-needed convenience. Additionally, the expanded workout record list, which now shows up to 100 entries, is a welcome improvement for those who track their fitness history.
