RingConn adds automatic workout detection & ring finder

RingConn has just released updates for its smart ring and app, bringing in some handy new features and a few important tweaks. The highlights are the automatic workout detection for Gen 2 rings, along with a ring finder feature in the app. Remember, you need to install both the app software and ring firmware to benefit from the upgrade.

If you’ve got a Gen 2 ring, the big deal here is automatic workout detection. It’s only available with the latest firmware update (FR02.012), so you’ll need to check for updates in the app under “Me” and then “Version Management.” That’s also from where you can initiate the update.

Once you’re set up, the ring can automatically pick up on activities like walking or running without you needing to fiddle with settings—just let it do its thing. The feature seems pretty convenient if you often forget to hit start before heading out.

Your only job is to make sure to toggle the “automatic workout detection” is set to on. The screenshots below show where this can be found.

Other new features

The app update adds a few extras, too. There’s a new ring search feature for those moments when your ring goes MIA (under the couch, anyone?). It is easy to misplace something that small.

You’ll also find a notes section on the insights page, perfect for jotting down reminders or keeping track of fitness goals. And if you speak Italian, the app now has you covered with a full language option. Small things, but they make a difference.

Keep in mind, not everyone will see the updates right away—as always – it’s a staggered rollout. If you’re eager, check the app regularly, and don’t forget to keep your ring charged and nearby while updating. No one likes a half-finished update.

These aren’t groundbreaking changes, but they’re part of ongoing efforts by RingConn to make its devices even more useful. No fuss, no drama—just a smarter smart ring.

The company has, in recent years, successfully established itself as a viable alternative to the more costly Oura. Don’t forget to check out my full review of RingConn Gen 2.
