New Amazfit T-Rex 3 update improves workouts & music control

The latest firmware update for the Amazfit T-Rex 3, version 3.5.4.8, adds some features that make workouts smoother and daily use a bit easier. What we are getting are new workout modes, music controls, and fishing-friendly updates.

Updating your T-Rex 3 is a piece of cake. Just make sure it’s paired with the Zepp app on your phone. Open the app, and if the update doesn’t pop up right away, go to “Profile,” tap your watch, and hit check for updates. The size of the file is around 13MB. Make sure the watch has at least half a charge so it doesn’t die mid-update. Start it up, keep your phone nearby, and don’t close the app till it’s done.

Some users have noticed an issue. When they try to install the update an error pops up preventing them from proceeding. The way around this is to restart the watch and try again.

What’s new?

One of the new features is a ski machine workout mode. If you use an indoor ski machine, the watch now tracks things like distance and stroke rate, giving you detailed data to work with. You can find it under the indoor workout section in the workout app.

For those who love fishing—or just want to keep track of their fishing spots—the update adds the ability to see GPS locations of your fishing spots in the workout record section. It’s a nice touch if you’re into that kind of thing and want to log your favorite spots.

Another handy feature is the new audio control app. Essentially, this app replaces the old music widget. It lets users control music on their phones anytime, not just during workouts. Before this update, you could only play, pause, or skip tracks while tracking a workout, which was pretty limiting. Now, you can mess with your music whenever you want, making it way more useful. Volume control still needs the touchscreen, which isn’t great if you’re wearing gloves.

Strength training also gets a boost. The weight-setting page has been updated so you can tweak things faster during rest periods. Other updates include a better way to handle imported route tracks with checkpoints, plus smarter notification pop-ups during workouts. These tweaks keep the watch running more smoothly and help you stay focused.

New Amazfit T-Rex 3 update

Overall, this update isn’t trying to reinvent anything, but it does add some solid improvements that make the T-Rex 3 feel a bit more polished. As always, it is a gradual rollout so not everyone will get it at the same time.
