Amazfit Helio Ring gets a sleep tracking and heart rate boost

Zepp Health has released a new firmware update for the Amazfit Helio Ring, focusing on sleep tracking, heart rate accuracy, and battery notifications. The device hasn’t received many firmware updates since launch, so it’s good to see the company refining its performance.

What has changed?

Zepp Health says it has updated the sleep tracking algorithm. This should mean better accuracy when it comes to tracking deep sleep, light sleep, and wake times.

Heart rate tracking is also getting an upgrade. The Helio Ring was already pretty solid at tracking heart rate during workouts, and this update aims to make those readings even more precise. If you use the ring for exercise, this could mean more reliable data when you’re pushing hard during a run or a gym session. As someone who has tested a number of different smart rings, the Helio Ring was actually the only one that gave me decent heart rate measurements during exercise. This is a stumbling block for most rings.

Battery management has also been tweaked . If your ring’s battery runs low while you’re sleeping, it’ll now log that status and remind you about it when you wake up.

As usual, Zepp Health has also thrown in some general bug fixes and optimizations, though they haven’t shared exactly what’s been fixed.

The Amazfit Helio Ring is a strong option for anyone looking for a smart ring that nails fitness tracking. As noted in my review, it’s not perfect—the Recovery Score can be hit or miss—but it’s comfortable, stylish, and does a great job tracking heart rate during workouts. The app is well-designed, battery life is solid, and even without paying for the Zepp Aura subscription, you get plenty of useful insights.

Typically retailing for $299 on the Amazfit website, the Helio Ring remains a solid choice, and it’s nice to see Amazfit rolling out updates to fine-tune things. Hopefully, there are more on the way.
