Xiaomi Watch S4 gets a smaller, more stylish sibling

Xiaomi has just announced a new 41mm version of its Watch S4. The launch took place at the brand’s Human-Car-Home Full Ecosystem Conference and arrives only a few months after the original 47mm model, which landed earlier this year with a heavier, more masculine aesthetic. This new release brings a clear shift in design, offering something more compact and versatile without stripping down the core functionality.

A quick recap of the 47mm Watch S4

I reviewed the original Watch S4 back in March. It builds on the S3 in a few important areas, with a brighter 1.43-inch AMOLED screen, smoother navigation via the rotating crown, and battery life that stretches up to 15 days in normal use. GPS performance is strong, heart rate tracking is accurate enough for most workouts, and the watch can grab a couple of extra days of use from a five-minute top-up.

What slightly holds it back is the software. HyperOS looks polished, but the app ecosystem feels limited. For users focused on fitness tracking and strong hardware, the S4 performs well. But for those who want deeper smartwatch integration or app variety, it comes up a bit short.

What’s changed and what hasn’t

The new 41mm model keeps the same core platform as the 47mm Watch S4. It runs HyperOS 2 and includes the full range of health and fitness sensors: GPS, heart rate, SpO2, barometer, compass, accelerometer, gyro, and skin temperature. Bluetooth 5.4 is on board, with NFC support depending on region. Watch face variety remains strong.

Xiaomi now quotes up to 8 days of use on a single charge. This is a figure that reflects the smaller size and more compact display.

As far as the actual dimensions, the case measures 41.2 x 41.2 x 9.5mm and weighs just 32 grams. It features a stainless steel bezel and frame, with a scratch- and drop-resistant glass over the display. The 1.32-inch AMOLED screen has a 466 x 466 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate, with peak brightness reaching 1500 nits.

The Watch S4 41mm offers the same multi-dimensional health tracking found in the larger version, but adds a few new tricks. These include Bluetooth heart rate broadcasting for real-time pairing with fitness equipment, and improved temperature tracking. The aim seems to be blending portability with pro-level features for users who care about health insights but want something discreet and light.

A complete redesign for a new audience

Color options include black, white, mint green, and gold. Compared to the rugged, industrial look of the 47mm version, this 41mm model presents a more elegant and polished design. The proportions are tighter, the profile is slimmer, and the casing has been visibly reworked. It almost looks like a completely different product. Xiaomi hasn’t just shrunk the original — it has reshaped it entirely. This version has clearly been designed with a female audience in mind.

There’s also more focus on materials and styling this time around. The quicksand gold version, for example, includes a gold Milanese strap and a crown set with six-point cultured diamonds. It’s a clear signal that Xiaomi is paying attention to premium finishes while keeping the build ultralight.

The 41mm Watch S4 is currently only available in China, with pricing starting at around $138 depending on strap choice. Subsidies may lower the entry price to approximately $117 for the base model with a fluororubber strap.
