How to unlock the hidden Easter egg on Xiaomi Smart Band 10

There’s a hidden Easter egg tucked inside Xiaomi’s new Smart Band 10. Just like on the Band 9, it takes a few taps in the right spot to unlock, but this time the animation is livelier and better suited to the upgraded display.

The same trick, but more vibrant this time

As some of you may know, the Smart Band 9 includes what is commonly referred to as an Easter egg. You can trigger it by tapping repeatedly on the version number inside the “About” screen. This brings up a short animation with the word “Vela.” There’s no sound or interaction, just a brief visual that is more a nod to the operating system than anything functional.

The word “Vela” in the Easter egg actually refers to Project Vela. This is the internal code name for Xiaomi’s HyperOS framework for IoT and wearables.

Smart Band 10 brings the exact same hidden feature, but with a few upgrades. The gesture is identical: go to Settings, open the About section, then tap multiple times on the firmware version number. After a brief pause, the animation kicks in. But this time, it looks noticeably better. Colours and animations are richer, movement is smoother, and the whole thing feels better suited to the hardware. You get something that resembles a Space Invaders game.

Part of the upgrade is likely down to the larger 1.72-inch display, which is slightly bigger than what came before. Xiaomi has also boosted brightness on the Smart Band 10, and the Easter egg benefits from it. It’s nothing dramatic, but the animation now pops more, and feels more in sync with the design language of the tracker.

What’s the point?

The obvious question is – what’s the point of this? Well, not much really.

I mean – it’s not like it servers a functional purpose. And most users will probably never stumble across it. You really need to know where to look.

But that’s part of the appeal. It’s there for fun, more than anything else. Even if most people never come across it, the Easter egg adds a light, playful touch to the software and offers a small glimpse into the personality behind Xiaomi’s wearable platform. You can also find it on other Xiaomi devices such as the Watch S3 and some HyperOS-powered smartphones. Happy hunting!
