Amazfit Active Max gets podcast support in latest update
The Amazfit Active Max is receiving a new software update version 3.4.0.3 weighing 15.01MB. A few additions stand out including podcast support, hybrid training and rucking sports profiles.
Podcast app support arrives
To most people podcast app support will be the headline addition. The watch can now handle podcast playback directly from the device rather than relying purely on a connected phone. This is an update that has already rolled out to a few Amazfit watches in the past month or so.
For people who prefer longer spoken content during training sessions, podcasts often replace music entirely. The addition therefore fits well with the broader fitness use case of the device.
Hybrid training and weighted walk tracking
The sports focused additions in this update include support for Hybrid Training. There’s also the ability to track a walking activity with a weighted backpack – better known as Rucking. This has become a popular form of endurance training because it blends strength work with steady cardio.
Hybrid training, on the other hand, suggests broader support for workouts that combine different styles of movement in one session. Many users mix strength exercises with running intervals or bodyweight circuits. Dedicated support for that style of workout helps the watch track sessions that do not fit neatly into a single activity category.
The update notes also mention improvements to GPS performance in certain scenarios. Exact details are not provided, but you can expect better satellite tracking during exercise.
System stability and battery related tweaks
Beyond this the update mentions adjustments to the sensitivity of scrolling through lists on the watch interface. Small interface tweaks like this can improve the experience when navigating menus.
The change-log also mentions optimisation for something described as the PHN experience when the watch battery is empty. The wording suggests improved behaviour when the battery reaches very low levels.
Other general system optimisations and bug fixes also appear in the changelog. These types of adjustments rarely grab attention yet they often smooth out the overall experience of using the device.
Unfortunately still no lactate threshold support. This debuted on the Amazfit Active 3 but has not yet rolled out to any other watches.
